Editorial Reviews

School Library Journal - School Library Journal
Gr 5-9-Accompanied by colorful photos, paintings, and statistical charts, these volumes address historical and topical aspects of the weapons trade and war. The books are loosely organized (partly chronological and partly topical) and consist of a series of chapter spreads that highlight subjects (refugees, right and wrong in war, weapons of mass destruction) and historical events (Vietnam War, the Cold War). There are also historical summaries (e.g., origins of the arms trade; the development of war). Although these titles treat controversial subjects fairly (e.g., the NRA, land mines, and Amnesty International), they cover so much history and subject breadth that they only scratch the surface, leaving readers with oversimplified or confusing views of the events discussed.-Jack Forman, Mesa College Library, San Diego Copyright 2003 Reed Business Information.
