Overview

  • Zombies Calling creator Faith Erin Hicks brings her manga-fueled art style and pop-culture sensibilities to girl's boarding schools in her latest book The War at Ellsmere.
  • Jun is the newest scholarship student at the prestigious Ellsmere girls'
boarding school — but to a lot of the privileged rich girls, "scholarship student" is just a code for "charity case." Fortunately, Jun has an ally in the quirky Cassie, who swears the stories about the man-eating unicorn that lives in the forest outside of the school are true. Between queen bees and mythical beasts, Jun has quite the school year ahead of her.

While i was reading "The War at Ellsmere" i thought i was actually particapating in the book. I thought i was a character in the book because its so real. Drama is caused in a lot of schools and Ellsmere is one of them. Juniper "the new girl" is a top notch kid, always gets straight a's at her old school. She meets a girl named Cassie who is her roomate while at Ellsmere. They become real good friends. She also meets Emily who is the drama starting girl at the schoool. Emily is concerned about not being the most popular girl and wants to make sure she gets better grades then Juniper and Cassie. Emily, gives Juniper a nickname.. "special project" she calls her. Cassie is here for Juniper telling her the story of Ellsmeres founders and the creature who roams the woods on school grounds. As the year goes by Cassie helps Juniper survive. Jun has no idea whats lurking behind her.. I believe the authors purpose was to inform readers about heading to a new school you have no idea what its going to be like. Also, the author is teaching how drama will start easily when you are the new girl ( Juniper in this case ) or even not the new girl ( Cassie in this case ).

Of course its another recs from GR. Can't go wrong with that. I keeping going on and on about the author's art style so I'll try to say something else I like. Well, the story while familiar has its moments. The two characters and their growing friendship, the MC standing up for herself against the bully which was a nice change of pace. Much thanks appreciative on that one. Near the end, I was thinking, um, what, random, well it was mentioned before but still. So there you go. Oh and I like the art style.
