Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Myrna Dee Marler
Only someone who loves horrible Saturday morning science fiction cartoons with evildoers set to destroy innocent victims of an earthlike realm only to be foiled by a band of warriors, in this case teenagers with secret powers and other assorted good guys would like this book—which is probably the point. This was written from a screenplay written probably for . . . okay. . .The Cartoon Network. Told from the objective-dramatic point of view, the plot assembles a cast of characters, both alien and human, to fight the HighBreed Armada, which is intent on destroying earth in order to lay hands on the Omnitrex. Invented by the chief Galvan alien, a tiny little being whose planet is being destroyed, the Omnitrex can change beings into other alien beings for purposes of guile, surprise, and battle. It stores DNA and in some complex manner accomplishes these transformations. A human teen named Ben, who lives in Bellwood, USA, and does normal teen things is accompanied by his twin sister, Gwen, and Professor Paradox. They regularly save the universe in their spare time. This book is one in a series, and the plot is fast-paced, inexplicable, and hard to follow if the reader is not familiar with the first ten or so of the series. But, if it can get kids to read, it may have some value in helping them practice decoding. Its moral message cannot be faulted: good guys win and bad guys do not; but it takes a lot of effort and comradeship to fight the forces of evil and destruction. Reviewer: Myrna Dee Marler
