    I Also Recommend:

    Excellent collection of Chekhov stories

Anton Chekhov is, undisputably, one of the greatest short stories writers of all time; this medium-sized volume contains 23 of his best pieces, including, of course, "Ward No. 6," as well as "The Grasshopper," "The Kiss," and "In the Ravine," among others. Far from focusing (rather simplistically) on plot, Chekhov, like a skilled painter, crafts vivid portraits of humanity in his stories, emphasizing subtle expression and mood with his understated style. Considered the creator of the modern short story, Chekhov exerted an influence still felt today. This book, an essential of literature in general, let alone Russian lit, belongs in every bibliophile's collection.

    Great

Chekhov is most definitely one of the greatest short story crafters who has ever lived. This book contains a great selection of his work covering all areas. I would highly recommend it to those who are just beginning to discover the genius of Chekhov, and to those who are busy and require short, entertaining reads. 'Brevity is the sister of talent.' -Anton Chekhov
