    Excellent Resource!

I discovered this title completely by chance while browsing in a Barnes and Nobles store. I have always consider myself a serious student of World War Two and have avoided similar books in the past. However, unlike many low quality books of with similar titles, Warplanes of the Luftwaffe is an excellent encyclopedia of aircraft information. A great deal of information is included about each aircraft, especially the more common types. For each plane there are technical specifications, profile illustrations, and photographs. For the more common planes there are also well labeled and nicely rendered cut-aways as well as top, profile, and forward-facing illustrations. The text is detailed but concise. The author provides a thorough description of the development and combat history of each aircraft, and then fleshes out the text with short descriptions of specific combat actions. Overall the book is easy and enjoyable to read and would make a wonderful addition to any history buffs library. Books on American and British planes of World War Two are also available in the same format by the same author. Personally, I'm very much hoping that new editions about Japanese and (especially) Russian aircraft will be forthcoming.

    Excellent general reference

A great addition to any WWII military enthusiast's library. Excellent illustrations and info on hard to find German aircraft. Although there is not as much in depth info as I would like, it is still the finest book currently in print on the subject. The overall quality is excellent. I hope the publisher adds additional titles to this series--i.e. Soviet and Japanese aircraft of WWII.

    Outstanding Reference

This book is an outstanding reference for historians, warbird buffs, and ven (in my case) scale modeling. Great, in-depth study of the history and development of each aircraft and all it's variants, from the most famous to the most obscure.

Definitely not a run of the mill picture book

Many of the WWII aviation books out there that sell themselves as 'reference books' are actualy nothing more than a collection photographs and captions scavenged from the archives and hastily pasted together. No so Warplanes of the Luftwaffe. I stumbled across this gem by accident and knew immediately that I hit the jackpot. This book has a history of each aircraft, including production and performance during the war, specifications on the most common variants of each plane, as well as tables of other variants and sub-variants with brief descriptions of what made them distinct, beautiful color plates, cut-away drawings, and of course archival photographs. The book is structured in an encyclopedic format, and contains entries for lesser-known German planes that I haven't been able to find anywhere else in this level of detail. There are two other books in this set, 'British Warplanes of World War II' and 'American Warplanes of World War II'. They both maintain the same level of high quality and together make a great set of books on WWII aviation. Unfortunately there are no books in this series for Japanese and Soviet aircraft (yet?) which would have been a real find since good information on these aircraft are really hard to find. If you're a WWII aviation buff do yourself a favor and buy this book. At this price, it's a definite steal.

A great addition to any library

The best reference for the Luftwaffe I've found. Has detailed descriptions of every aircraft included and three views of the more famous ones. Beautiful photographs and pictures! Definitely a must have for anyone interested in aviation history.
