Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Carlee Hallman
Luke wants to be a courageous warrior, but he is afraid. On the Warriors baseball team, Luke strikes out for the last bat of the day with the bases loaded. Coach Britmore encourages the team, but Luke is afraid of what the twins Double and Trouble might do to him. That night Luke and his two friends, Harry and Tomas, sleep out in a tent. Luke dreams that he and his friends are invited to Warrior Prince Academy by Constant who talks in rhyme. At the Academy Sir Britmore, who looks like the coach, warns them about Drakon, a snake who is the "master of tricks and traps." He says "that the first step to becoming a warrior prince is to believe that Jesus died on the cross for their sins in order that they may be forgiven." He tells the story of David and Goliath and ends with, "when you face your enemy, stand strong in the Lord." The dream continues as Double and Trouble go in search of Drakon. Luke sees Drakon following them and saves them with God's help. When Luke wakes up he realizes that with God's help he can be brave. At the end, a creedal formula with a prayer of acceptance is presented which allows one to become a warrior prince. A shield on which to write the name of the warrior prince is included. This is a part of "A Warrior Prince Academy Story" series. Reviewer: Carlee Hallman
