Overview

In a bid to end the Trojan War, three powerful goddesses try to tame the incomparable warrrior Achilles with the love of a modern woman in this Goddess Summoning novel from #1 New York Times bestselling author P. C. Cast...

Goddesses Hera, Athena, and Venus have had it up to here with the Trojan War. So much devastation—all because of some silly male egos. The worst of the bunch is Achilles, the Greek champion whose powers have made him practically invincible. To stop him would be to end the war. But the only way to stop a man like Achilles is to distract him—with something far more pleasurable than combat.

The three goddesses seize their chance when a twenty-first-century beauty named Kat and her best friend perish in a car crash in Tulsa, Oklahoma. In no time, they shift the friends’ souls into the bodies of a Trojan princess and her handmaiden, having no doubt that Kat will catch Achilles’s attention. But time will only tell if her independent, fiery spirit can match the unquenchable fire of his epic rage...

Hera, Athena and Venus, deciding that they've had enough of the Trojan War, summon Kat and Jackie, coeds from the University of Tulsa, to go back in time and make the two great warriors of the Greek army-Achilles and his cousin Patroklos-fall in love with them, cease fighting and end the war. While things go smoothly for Patroklos and Jackie, Kat has a more difficult time with rageful Achilles, destined to die at the walls of Troy after he kills Hector, the prince. Kat must also contend with Greek king Agamemnon, who hates Achilles and wants the glory of the Trojan conquest, no matter what the cost to others. Cast (Goddess of Love) keeps the loosely divine proceedings frothy, fun ("By Hermes's flamingly gay buttocks, she is absolutely perfect," exclaims Venus of Kat) and far outside the usual range of mythology. I absolutely adore P.C. Cast and her Goddess Summoning Series, but I felt that this book did not live up to my expectations. The major plot of the book was good. I enjoyed seeing Kat and Achilles build a relationship and try to work around the berserker. I did not enjoy much of the banter between Kat and her BFF Jacky, though. It was amusing at times, but after a short while, it became aggravatingly repetitive. I mean as much as I like Buffy and Star Trek, sometimes I just wanted to skip ahead. While reading that one, I realized that what I had enjoyed most about the series was the emphasis and buildup of the central heroine. I enjoy her progression into self-confidence and empowerment. Here we get a heroine who is brought in to help Achilles. He is more the central figure in this story. We do not see the evolvement of the heroine as much as past stories. I still loved the goddess references and most of all Venus, who was the one bright spot in this book. Side characters for me also helped in this book; because this gave the book some more depth for me, trying in some reference from the Iliad, and The Odyssey. The very end of the book is, well, a train wreck. She should have stopped short of where she did. I won't ruin the ending, but I advise readers to stop at the end of the scene that involves a flaming arrow and Paris. For those of you that have read the book, I just have to say: Kirk, really?! While I enjoy a happy ending as much as the next romantic, this was not the way to end this book.

If you are a history buff you probably won't like this book. However if you love to read fun filled adventrue stories with a lot of love and sex and scheming this is the book for you. P.C. Cast puts a fantastic spin on what really happened at Troy and how the Greeeks won. The ending is suprising too. Got your attention? Good go out and buy this book to see how it ends.

This book was simply amazing! Funny, romantic and everything I've always wanted in a book. I never thought it would be so good! The chemistry between the main character and Achilles or 'Kirk' haha was amazing. I loved every single thing about this book. Especially the parts that made me laugh out loud quite literally. :)

This was a unique way to retell the story of Achilles. Some of the language used by the two female main characters was irritating, though. They sounded like teenagers (and I don't know any teenagers that talk like they do) when they were 35+ year old women. The two female characters seemed really juvenile at times. It's also the same kind of lingo that was used in the House of Night novels, so that's probably why it rubbed me the wrong way in an ADULT novel.

P.C. Cast has took me on another journey. I could not have asked for a better story. It had romance, action, and tragedy. I felt like i was in the Trojan War with them. It had never accured to me of Achilles having a monster controlling him. It made me see that he truely loved Kat when she was able to help him control it. It had an outstanding beginning, middle, and end! AMAZING!!!!:)

This is a light-hearted read about Achilles and how three goddesses twisted the fate of time to create the history that we know today. I thought it could have been much steamier but I tend to like erotic type books. If you want sweet with a little bit of magic then this is the book for you. And if you liked this one you should ready my two favorites: Goddess of Spring and Goddess of the Sea.
