Meet the Author

Erin Hunter is inspired by a fascination with the ferocity of the natural world. As well as having great respect for nature in all its forms, Erin enjoys creating rich mythical explanations for animal behavior. She is also the author of the bestselling Warriors and Seekers series.

Wayne McLoughlin studied art at San Diego State University and has worked as a writer and illustrator for such magazines as Esquire and National Lampoon. His books for children include Fireflies, by Alice Hoffman, Here is the Wetland, by Madeleine Dunphy (both Hyperion), and Loch, by Paul Zindel. He lives with his wife and daughter in Bellows Falls, Vermont.

Biography

Erin Hunter is the nom de plume of three British writers who create enthralling, animal-centric YA fantasies in the tradition of Brian Jacques's Redwall books. In 2003, they launched their bestselling Warriors series with Into the Wild, the story of a domesticated kitten who leaves the comforts of his human home to join a family of feral cats living in the woods. Introducing a captivating world where rival cat clans struggle for survival, the book was an immediate sensation with animal- and adventure-loving preteens. Since its debut, Warriors has become a genuine publishing phenomenon, spawning a string of six-book miniseries, each with its own distinct story arc.

The Erin Hunter collaboration is an unusual but highly successful one. Characters and story ideas emanate from editor Victoria Holmes, who keeps track of previous plot lines, ensures continuity, and coordinates the details of a complex and growing cast of characters. Kate Cary and Cherith Baldry take turns writing individual books; then everything is vetted again through Holmes, who checks carefully to make sure the stories are told in a single, unified voice. With different writing styles at work, this would seem a daunting task. However, in a 2006 interview, Holmes explained her modus operandi: "I think of it as being able to "speak Erin Hunter", like speaking a different language, and after working on [so many] scripts, I know pretty much at once if a line or phrase doesn't sound right."

Although the Erin Hunter books are written for young readers, they do not shy away from difficult material. The animals face life-threatening dangers and experience pain, grief, and loss -- sometimes even treachery within their own ranks. But the authors are always careful to reinforce positive messages about family, friendship, loyalty, and love. Independently, Holmes, Cary, and Baldry stay busy with their own writing and editing projects; but in 2008, they reunited for a second animal fantasy series. Seekers: The Quest Begins features a trio of bears from different species (black, polar, and grizzly), who join together for an adventure-filled odyssey that will change their lives forever.

Good To Know

Fun facts about "Erin Hunter" and the Warrior books, plus advice for aspiring writers:
Cherith Baldry and Kate Cary have always loved cats -- and writing fantasy stories! Cherith is particularly interested in the stories of King Arthur, with all those glorious battles, knights, and a courtly code of behavior. Kate is fascinated by animal interaction and the way you can read all sorts of hidden motivation into what cats do. She's also not afraid of describing the goriest scenes!

Says Victoria Holmes, "I love being one of the Erins and frequently dream of being a cat running through a forest when I am coming up with new story lines. Teaming up with Kate and Cherith on the Warriors books is an unconventional way of working, but we love writing the books together and it means we can produce them much faster than a single writer could."

They came up with the single name, Erin Hunter, to avoid confusing their readers by having books from the same series filed in different places on the bookshelves.

Erin's advice for aspiring writers: "Read, read, and read some more! Make sure you read a wide variety of stories: fantasy stories teach you about making up completely new worlds, crime-solving stories teach you about handling a complicated plot, stories with lots of characters teach you how to describe relationships. Also, write as many stories as you can, even if no one else reads them. And remember that the best inspiration comes from what's around you -- Kate and Cherith go for long walks through the woods to find new locations for the cats to explore. They also spend hours watching their cats -- and other people -- to see how they behave in certain situations."

    :-)

This is very good! I am only on page 21, but I am hooked!!!! Just letting you know: this is only a short story with 81 pages. IT IS NOT A SUPER EDITION. The cover can be misleading (I was like 'a super edition for only 3 bucks?!' but it is only a short story. I am suspecting that they might come out with the full book later, but as far as I know, it hasn't yet.

    Hi

Hello. Just letting you know, if you want a review, skip to the second paragraph.
Hi. I am Amberblaze, an amber/honey colored she-cat with a golden muzzle and tailtip. I don't have a forum account, but I'm still a loyal Clan member through and through. Also, I think that it is OK to do a BIT of roleplaying on here, as long as you also add a serious, several-sentence review.
This book looks really good. It is only 81 pages, so it's not one of the "special issues", but I think it is still worth the read, though there are some spoilers for those of you who have not read all of the new series. After all, it's 3 bucks. Highly reccomended.
    Cheers, Amberblaze.
P.S, Spiritkit, you are now ADOPTED!!!

    Two new warriors

Dewpaw, and Snowpaw, gazed nervoursly at highrock. They had just passed their final assesment, and they waited paitently for Bramblestar to anounce their names. "Let all cats old enough to catch their own prey gather benath highrock for a clan meeting" said Bramblestar. His voice rang throughout the hollow, summoning every elder, kit, apprentice, and warrior. Bramblestar eckoned the anxious apprentices with his tail. "Do you promise to uphold the warrior even at the cost of your life?" he said. "I do " echoed the two siblings. The siblings were sad their sister Ambersong could'nt share they ceremony together, but, she had chosen the life of a medicine cat. Bramblestar continued his speach,"By the powers of Starclan, Snowpaw, from this moment on you will be known as Snowfall, Starclan honors you for your faith and wisdom. Dewpaw, from this moment on you will be known as Dewnose, Starclan honors you for your enthusiasim and skill" Bramblestar finished his speach, just as the clan started chanting, "Dewnose! Snowfall! Dewnose! Snowfall!" The brother and sister held their heads high. Ambersong rushed to congratulate her siblings, but before she could reach them a sicking cry erupted at the top of the hollow. Someone was falling into the hollow!
    (to be continued...)
    Thanks,
    H.F.
Look out for more adventures by me. Thanks for reading.
I will take suggestions as to what will happen next.
Just post as sugestion to H.F. and I will look at all of them, and take credit to you in my next adventure.( make sure to leave your name.)

    Epic Book!

Hollyleaf's Story is an amazing book, in my opinion. The Erin Hunters wrote this book about Hollyleaf's life in the tunnels. This story does not repeat on anything that has happened in the Warriors Series so you will not be bored. You get to see Hollyleaf, Fallen Leaves, and many more cats, in a different way. I would recomend this book to anyone who as already read through the Hollyleaf disapearing part in the series.

P.S- After you read this book you get to read the prolouge and the first chapter of the next book in the Warrior Series called, 'The Last Hope'!

I am so excited for this book to come out. I have waited so long, and have wondered what happened to Hollyleaf after the tunnel collapsed on her. I am eagerly awaiting this book, and know Erin Hunter will make it as good as ever.

In conclusionmmm. CLICK HERE TO HEAR ME RANT

When you review you state your opinion about a book. You don't just blurt out you love it then give it a five star rating. That is not reviewing a book its spamming. If you liked this book WHY and if you didn't WHY NOT. Its that simple! Nobody is asking you to write a four page response. Just explain and stop spamming cheap roleplays and lame reviews. I wish to know if this book is worth my money so can you actually attempt to help me?

    Hollyleafs Story

Hollyleaf escapes from the tunnel that had fallen on her, knowing she could never be a clan cat after she had found out the truth, her mother was not Squrrielflight-it is Leafpool the ThunderClan medicine cat and her former mentor, her father is not Brambleclaw but is Crowfeather of WindClan. Medicine cats were forbidden to have kits or to have mates, her ral mother had broken the warrior code! She had found out when there had been a fire and Squirrelflight had been forced to tell the truth to Ashfur her former mate. Hollyleaf had killed Ashfur so that the secret would not have been known to any of the cats in her clan. Realizing it would never stay a secret she had told the truth to all the cats of the clans at a gathering. Seeing her clanmates look of horrors she noticed that she did not belong there. Hollyleaf met a tom named Fallen Leaves who had helped her put her leg back to normal. Fallen Leaves is training to become a sharpclaw which is keeping him distant from his family and will Hollyleaf ever realize were her true home is? Buy Hollyleafs Story for 3 bucks only to find out all the details to this book.
