The basis for the cult-classic film The Warriors chronicles one New York City gang's nocturnal journey through the seedy, dangerous subways and city streets of the 1960s. Every gang in the city meets on a sweltering July 4 night in a Bronx park for a peace rally. The crowd of miscreants turns violent after a prominent gang leader is killed and chaos prevails over the attempt at order. The Warriors follows the Dominators making their way back to their home territory without being killed. The police are prowling the city in search of anyone involved in the mayhem. An exhilarating novel that examines New York City teenagers, left behind by society, who form identity and personal strength through their affiliation with their "family," The Warriors weaves together social commentary with ancient legends for a classic coming-of-age tale. This edition includes a new introduction by the author.

I think the book The Warriors was a really good and interesting book. I played the video game in the past so when I saw the book in the school library I decide to read the book and see if it was good liked the game. I loved how the story was told only the beginning was really slow and I got a little lost that I had to start all over again. So I thought it was going to be boring but I still gave it a chance and I got better after getting really into the book. The protagonist gang is the Coney Island Denominators, a black/Hispanic group, the leader is Papa Arnold, Lunkface is the co-leader and Hinton the youngest gang member but in the video game they are called the Warriors and the antagonist gang is The Lord, the rival group. The whole plot is about when the leader, named Ismael, of all the gangs calls them for a meeting for them to make peace with each other but turns out that they started fighting against each other. When cops come, the gangs think that Ismael set them up so someone shoots him and kill him so very one runs away and it appeared that Papa Arnold disappeared. The dominators get blamed for the killing of Ismael so the whole story is about them trying to clear their name. I think the plot development was pretty slow the tension kept rising up like at the end of the book. A effective element that I thought was important was the setting because it took place in New York City and I think it was a good setting because I heard there were many gangs there in the past. I also think that the book was a little bit like The Outsiders, two rival gangs, one gang kills a leader and they run away. In the Outsiders Johnny kills the Soc and Ponyboy and Johnny run away. In the Warriors they are mistaken of killing someone. The whole plot is short but the author wrote about objectives the Dominators have to face to make the story longer. I noticed how the author wrote the book he or she wrote in a slang language which kinda got me confused when I was reading it but I think it’s actually a good thing because some readers like that to make it more interesting. Also there is a little bit of profanity in the story which made it more interesting for me. I heard that the movie had more action than the book. Overall the book was good and I recommend it to anyone that likes gang violence.

If you watched the movie first, you probably won't be too fond of the book at first. I, however, throughly enjoyed it. It is, in a way, the "original". The book took some turns I wasn't expecting, such as the arrest of several Dominators. In terms of story and nothing I else, I enjoyed the book. In terms of literary elements, it comes across as a 16 year old boy wrote it; but maybe that's what Sol Yurick wanted. The back and forth dialoge was, no doubt, immature and very vulgar and the narration didn't hit me as any different. The characters were actually very unoriginal and I was almost fully expecting there to be a set amount of gang memebers, each with a special trait that no other member has. There was the "artist", the "fighter", the "leader/father" etc. It would be nice, if for a change, a gang had their members all carrying the same ability of being able to fight or steal well. Overall, I would only reccomend this book to those whom have not seen the movie, or whom would love to see the accurate depiction of late 60's gang activites. I give it a 4/5 for the unoriginality in member traits, but it was still a good read.

It was 1979 I was 10 beg my mother to let me watch this movie, didnt know at that time this would be part of movie history. What a incredible journey of brotherhood, something that is not seen today. The book is more in depth but a must read for any Warrior fan, enjoy

I read the book before the movie came out and was so captivated by the characters and their surroundings that it sounded very realastic.I thought the book was way different from the movie(more detailed)and couldn't put it down.Upon learning they came out with a movie I was so thrilled I was going to finally see the characters come to life on the big screen,I was not disappointed, the cast they choose for the movie was right on the money. If ya haven't read the book,do it.

The book was very interesting and i really enjoyed it. I like it because there was plenty of action and you could relate to some of the problems that happend to the characters in the book. I had also seen the movie when I was younger so it kind of ruined the book but I still recommend this book.I couldnt put the book down once I started because it was so action packed and it really pulled the reader in. The book is about a gang called the Warriors who all the gangs of N.Y. are out to look for because they think they murdered that gang leader of N.Y. So they face many obstacles trying to make it back to their territory before they get killed walking through other peoples territory. After I read the book i watched the movie again and thought that the movie was much better. Another thing i liked about the book is that since the characters are young they speak similar to how we speak so the book was very easy to understand and it flowed well.

If you seen the movie first dont touch the book you will disapointed. If you read the book first you will be satisfied. It shows how life was for gangs back then. Overall this book is excellent in the way it was written.

I waited a few months for this book to be reprinted, having been a huge fan of the 1979 film. I was very disappointed with this book, as there are no characters to really root for or even sympathize with. The 'warriors' are all thieves, murderers, gang-rapists, and the only positive thing about the book is that it accurately depicts gang life in the 1960s. If you want gang members to root for and identify with, stick to the Walter Hill film.

This book is fiction but it went down like this in real life. Once upon a time gangs actually use to fight, and not just shot and run. The Warriors were a multi racial gang and their leader / shot caller, was one bad white dude. They had to make it back to the safety of their own Set or turf after they were wrongfully accused of puting a hit on a heavy weight gang leader. Their journey back to their 'Set' through various enemy Sets and territory was action packed. The book starts fast and ends faster. An even better read than the movie.

This is a classic and the book is better than movie. The Leader of the Warrior is one hell of a Street Fighter and bad White Dude. This work is fictonal but it used to go down like this in real life. Back in the day we use to actually fight and not drive by and shoot and run, like today's cowards. The Warriors were targeted for puting a hit on a heavy weight O.G., by a rival gang. They did not do it and when the news hit the streets they were about ten Sets away from their own Set and safety of their own turf. They had to fight and escape their way back. This is good a good read and the way it used to go down.
