YA-- These cartoons present a number of humorous but thought-provoking views of the consequences of Columbus's voyages. American commercialism and mass culture are critically lampooned--one selection shows the explorer wearing Mickey Mouse ears, several others show a giant Coca Cola bottle as an Indian totem pole. A number depict Native Americans bemoaning the laxity of their immigration policies. The book is a source of entertainment, but it will also get students thinking critically about the view of the U. S. from abroad.
