Washington, D.C.by Geoffrey M. Horn
Washington, D.C., is our nation's capital. The White House, the Senate, the House of Representatives, and the Supreme Court are all found within the city. National monuments like the Lincoln Memorial and the Vietnam Veterans Memorial attract visitors every year, making tourism an important party of the city's economy. Our nation's capital has also been the scene of many historic demonstrations, including the 1963 Civil Rights march and various marches against the war in Vietnam. In 2005, Washingtonians welcomed major league baseball back to their city for the first time in more than thirty years.
