Overview

Watch Me Do Yoga is narrated by a child's voice as she goes through a series of yoga poses. We see her practicing with her dad, her mom, or the family dog, and sometimes alone on her mat. We see her in the garden, on the patio, in her bedroom, even sitting on a gigantic lotus. But no matter what the setting, she relates her yoga to the natural world. She stands like a tree or a mountain and imitates the actions of animals — a fish, a dog, a lion, and a tortoise. She celebrates her connection with the life around her and wants just a bit of attention in return. The upbeat text and appealing illustrations should encourage young children to practice yoga and their parents to practice with them.

Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Phyllis Kennemer
A young girl demonstrates yoga poses as she narrates her experiences in learning the meditative discipline. She stands on one leg and pretends she is a tree; she and her mother practice the Mountain Pose together; and then she imitates a swimming fish. The girl and her dog greet the sun and practice Downward Dog before they go out to play. The child and her dad stick out their tongues and roar when they do the Lion Pose. Some other exercises, not identified by names, are completed before the girl does the Tortoise Pose. She moves into the Lotus Pose, closes her eyes, and spends some time in meditation. She finishes with the Child's Pose. Most of the pictures appear in bright colors on white backgrounds. Thus, the poses are easy to see and young readers who are so inclined could figure out how to do them. A good introduction to the practice of Yoga. Part of the "Chatterboox" series. Reviewer: Phyllis Kennemer, Ph.D.
