Editorial Reviews

Library Journal
Gr 1-2-Two solid choices for beginning readers. In Hector's Hiccups, two Hispanic children try to rid their younger brother of hiccups, using all the traditional cures. Watch Out for Bears includes three short chapters about Henry, a man who lives alone, and his friend Bruno, a delightfully polite bear who only eats honey when it's offered. Each story has a light touch of humor. Both books have short sentences and large print with colorful illustrations on each page. As they are a step up from first readers, they lack repetition and picture clues, but the engrossing stories and pleasing pictures provide the incentive to decipher the more complicated texts.-Anne Knickerbocker, Cedar Brook Elementary School, Houston, TX Copyright 1999 Cahners Business Information.
