Overview

Vampires.

They hunt in every major city, hidden by the crowds, shielded by disbelief. They are Killers, and their prey is human.

Not all vampires are Killers. The Guardians of the Night sacrifice the superior physical and psychic strength that comes with feeding on humans to protect them.  But the Guardians walk a thin line, for even a single kill could leave them helplessly addicted to murder.

When detective-turned-P.I. Carolyn Mathers was left at the altar, she never once thought her fiancé had been turned into a vampire. Two years later, Gray reappears, bringing murder, mystery, and an unbelievable tale of Guardians, blood-thirsty Killers, and his own transformation with him.

And he's been accused of murder.

A first-rate P.I., Carolyn is determined to help.  Gray won’t allow what he is now to taint her -- but Carolyn vows to never let him go again.

But will helping Gray mean becoming a creature of the night?

Meet the Author

Jenna Black

Author Jenna Black writes paranormal romance books and young adult novels, including Shadowspell and Watchers in the Night, which was nominated for the 2006 Paranormal Excellence in Romantic Literature (PEARL) award. She's your typical writer: an experience junkie. Once upon a time, she dreamed she would be the next Jane Goodall, camping in the bush and making fabulous discoveries about primate behavior. She went to Duke University to study physical anthropology. Then, during her senior year, she made a shocking discovery: primates spend something like 80% of their time doing such exciting things as sleeping and eating. Narrowly escaping the boring life of a primatologist, she moved on to such varied pastimes as grooming dogs and writing technical documentation. Among her other experiences: ballroom dancing, traveling to all seven continents--yes, even Antarctica--becoming a Life Master in Bridge, and singing in a barbershop chorus.

    Move over Edward!

It took me just three days to read and finish Watchers in the Night; that's how good this book is. I started reading the book to fill up my time, but ended getting wrapped in the mystery. All of the characters are well written and construct a very interesting mystery book. This book is adventures in many ways and may I say extremely sexy, and with this entire vampire craze this is a great book for women to enjoy. I recommend Watchers in Night for anyone looking for a grown up book to read. Get ready for a new secret fantasy.

    A superb paranormal romantic suspense

Three years ago just prior to their wedding Gray James vanished without a trace. His fiancée Carolyn Mathers, a private investigator and former cop, searched for him, but found no clues. She gave up the helpless investigation assuming he was either dead or went deep aground to avoid their marriage.---------------------- In Philadelphia, a street thug threatens Carolyn when out of nowhere Gray intercedes. Stunned, but also outraged, she asks him where he has been, but he refuses to respond to her inquiry. Instead he wants to flee because he no longer deserves the human he loves and cherishes above life since he has become a vampire. Meanwhile the Guardians of the Night, vampires who protect humans, suspect Gray is a rogue serial killer preying on mortals. Carolyn believes otherwise as she thinks his heart and soul are the same whether he is human or vampire and plans to sleuth until she uncovers the truth.---------------- WATCHERS IN THE NIGHT is a superb paranormal romantic suspense that grips readers from the moment the petit Carolyn slowly removes her coat under the orders of the street punk that she plans to stop once she opens the last button and never slows down until she confronts the killer and her beloved. The story line is action-packed with vampires flying in and out making Jenna Black¿s realm seem real. However, the novel is owned by the courageous heroine who takes on punks, thugs, good and evil vampires and Gray as she affirms love conquers everyone.----------------- Harriet Klausner

    Exciting!

I had a great time reading this book because of the fast plot, the great action scenes, and the sizzling chemistry between the main characters. Jenna's hero and heroine are so much fun to follow! The mystery kept me guessing, but the real treat for me was seeing Carolyn and Gray relearn each other and come to a new understanding between them. I can't help but mention the highly entertaining supporting characters, Hannah and Jules, and I hope they'll have a book of their own somewhere along the line. Overall, a fun, satisfying read!

    Not my favorite Black

I have read several other Jenna Black books and loved them all. This one just kind of fell flat for me.

    Fast Paced Paranormal!

Carolyn Mathers, a P.I., thought that she would never see her ex-fiancé again, but there he is, appearing out of nowhere to save her from a would-be attacker. One, she doesn¿t need saving, since she is quite capable of defending herself and two, she wants to know where in the heck he has been for the last two years. Gray James hadn¿t wanted to abandon Carolyn however, circumstances beyond his control gave him no choice. Now he made matters worse, by letting her see him. Of course, she has questions for him, but he doesn¿t have a clue how to tell her that the man she loved died two years ago. Gray being a vampire is the least of their problems. He has the `Guardians of the Night¿ watching him. They¿re vampires that destroy other demons that cannot control the beast within. One guardian in particular has good reasons to believe Gray will fail. When bodies start to stack up around town, all clues point to Gray as the killer. Carolyn intends to prove that Gray is innocent. She¿s just as determined to convince Gray that no matter how much his life has changed, they¿re love for each other is strong enough to endure it. This fast-paced paranormal romance keeps you intrigued to the last page. She introduces some secondary characters that are as likable as the main characters. This fan would love to read about their story. Hopefully Ms. Black intends to pen more `Guardian of the Night¿ tales. Highly Recommended!
