New York Times bestselling author Charles Martin's breathtaking novel of love and redemption.
Charlie Finn had to grow up fast, living alone by age sixteen. Highly intelligent, he earned a life-changing scholarship to Harvard, where he learned how to survive and thrive on the outskirts of privileged society. That skill served him well in the cutthroat business world, as it does in more lucrative but dangerous ventures he now operates off the coast of Miami. Charlie tries to separate relationships from work. But when his choices produce devastating consequences, he sets out to right wrongs, traveling to Central America where he will meet those who have paid for his actions, including a woman and her young daughter. Will their fated encounter present Charlie with a way to seek the redemption he thought was impossible--and free his heart to love one woman as he never knew he could?

Having read all of Charles Martin's books, I can say without hesitation that this is by far his best work yet! The language is rich, the plot flows like water in a stream, and the attention to detail will make you look around and wonder if you are in Nicaragua. The characters will become your best friends; their lives will become part of the fabric of your life. From the moment I picked up the book, I felt something moving inside me. This story broke something in me, softened me, and made me a better person. In the days following, I found myself in a situation which gave me an opportunity to be "love with legs", and I believe my ability to be put myself aside and be there, in the moment, completely present for the people who needed me came from the soul searching that Water from my Heart created in me. I am so caught up in going deeper into the heart of who I am meant to be that I haven't been able to read another book since finishing this one. Thank you, Charles, for this beautiful work of art. I am truly blessed to have discovered your work.

I've been a fan of Charles Martin since his first book. Though I've read all of his books, his earlier works have been my favorites until this one. Water from my Heart is exceptional and in a class by itself. The story is powerful, with characters who bring us to an unprecedented social and moral conscience-raising level, accentuating just how privileged we are as Americans. It infiltrates the reader into countries and cultures who elicit an awareness of what is ultimately important in life, regardless of status, wealth or power. Thank you, sir, for sharing your soul, faith and beliefs with us so openly. Truly inspiring, unforgettable and life-altering!

His characters come alive!  When I started reading Water from My Heart it was like sitting down and talking to an old friend.  I was so excited to start reading.....but sad when I was finished. .Charles Martin is a truly gifted writer. To have the talent for words to become 3 dimensional - for words to breath, and live and then move with such force to reshape another . . . . extraordinary. He must have some very exhausting days - - his description of Charlie digging that well wore me out - whew!! I had to take a nap after that! Ahhhh . . . but the water from that well!!! "Water from My Heart" is Chicken Soup for your soul.

I have read all of Charles Martin's books and I am never disappointed and this one has been added to my list. This is just about my favorite author because he gets deep into the soul of his characters. By the end of this book you are so proud of Charlie. He's been to the bottom but people are placed in his life to help him and not just throw him away. We should all be that way in life. Once again I'm blown away by Mr. Martin's way of turning a character around, and I have been able to observe. Well done!

I loved this story! The characters were fully developed in an unpredictable plot and the storyline was fascinating. Charles Martin dug deep into the lives of his subjects and allowed me to walk with them hand in hand through their struggles and victories. I always learn things from his books and this one was no exception. Without giving away the story I'll just say take a trip with Charlie Finn to Nicaragua. You'll be glad you went! It was a great read.

The book description doesn't even begin to scratch the surface of the story. However, I hate long reviews of a book that rehash everything that happened in the story. To me, a review is telling what you thought of the book, the writing, etc., not a longer summary of the book full of spoilers, so I won't do that. (Pardon my soapbox moment as I get into that discussion regularly). The author has an amazing talent for bringing the reader into the thought process of the main character. What has happened to him to cause him to approach the way he did? What decisions led him to where he is now? Even when a character has done something you would never approve of, you want to be on his side and root him on. You may not want to like the guy, but you do. Charlie's story is a journey of learning it's never too late to start over and that the decisions of your past do not have to dictate your future. While on the surface it may seem that you are a bad person, you can still have a kind and giving heart. You can turn your life around and be forgiven. There is always an opportunity for redemption. Since there is, of course, a romance thread, there is also someone out there that can love you. With impeccable research, the reader feels like they have visited Miami, Costa Rica, Nicaragua, and Bimini. (I really want to go on vacation now.) Not only that, what could become a messy web of details is perfectly interwoven and connected together. I admire the gift of being able to tell a story and keep all of the details straight. You really should check this one out! *I received this book from the publisher in exchange for an honest review.

This is the first time I have read a book written by Charles Martin and it will not be the last. Wow, what a story!!! I may be wrong, but I think there is something in it for everyone as it had me captivated from the beginning. By social standards, a young boy (Charlie Finn) struggles in everyday life as he comes from the wrong side of the tracks. He doesn't like school; however, his intelligence allows him to coast through with a high GPA even when skipping classes to surf most of the time. He decides to go to Harvard on a full scholarship and even there he graduates with a MBA 4.00 GPA without applying effort. After graduation, he encourages his girlfriend to go with him to and island for downtown time. It turns out the girl's father is extremely rich, high powered, and unethical with his daughter, employees as well as in business deals. Even so, in order to stay close to his girlfriend Charlie accepts her father's job offer. The father keeps him traveling from place to place in order to keep them apart. Finally, he realizes what his boss is doing and leaves the company, the girlfriend because she is not strong enough to leave her father as well as his money because the father doesn’t pay him. Charlie returns to his island getaway but gets caught up in another job which is illegal, dangerous and exciting. The major difference in his new job – the new 'boss' doesn't cheat him and actually likes him bringing him into the family-fold even going so far as making him the godfather to his two children. While on the island he meets a young, beautiful doctor and they fall in love and are about to become married when a horrific accident to his boss’s little girl has the doctor confronting him on what his occupation really is. Once she discovers his illegal occupation she leaves him saying she never wants to see him again. Charlie continues working the illegal job and it has him returning to a country in Central America where his first employment had left the people there destitute and he comes full face to the destruction his former boss did thanks to the information he had sent him. While staying there he meets and falls in love with a woman who happens to be a victim on his former job and is dirt poor in every way other than compassion. Months later and before he can confess his part in the community's destruction he is ambushed and critically wounded. This woman saves his life numerous times on the ground and during the medical air flight. His boss uses his private, high speed jet to get him out and to a hospital in the USA. The doctor who has to save his life and repair the damage done to him during the ambush is none other than the one to whom he was supposed to wed. She operates on him but the chances of survival are extremely low because he lost most of his blood during the attack and in the air. I'm stopping my review as I don't want to give away the rest of this powerful book. But, please do read the pages after the story ends. These pages are written by the author describing actual events -a mudslide which took more than 3,000 lives during a hurricane - which some of the events within the book are woven into the story.
