Children's Literature - Phyllis Kennemer
Basic information about water is presented in a straight-forward, easy-to-understand way. We live on a blue planet, because water covers three-fourths of the surface of Earth. Water is essential for life and life actually began in the water with tiny, one-celled creatures. Types of life found in oceans, rivers, lakes, and ponds are described. As rivers flow downhill, they gather bits of sediment which causes erosion and makes deltas where rivers meet oceans. The changing forms of water (solid, liquid, and gas) and the water cycle are described. Water vapor in the air determines weather conditions—rain, snow, sleet, hail, and fog. Recognizing types of clouds can help in predicting weather. About half the weight of the human body is water. Humans take in and release liquids from their bodies on a frequent basis. Illustrated with the high quality photographs associated with National Geographic. Includes a table of contents, an illustrated glossary, and an index. Part of the “National Geographic Readers” series. Reviewer: Phyllis Kennemer, Ph.D.; Ages 6 to 9.
