About the Author

With a background of Engineering and Political Economy, the author has published extensively on issues of water management. Widely travelled in the field areas as a researcher and development consultant, the author displays a remarkable ability to connect and analyze the disparate empirical observations at the grass-roots in the context of macro concerns of current water policy and practice. At present she is based at Hyderabad and works as an independent consultant. About the Institute Centre for Economic and Social Studies (CESS) has been recognised as a national institute for its role in the promotion of research and training. Its objectives are to conduct interdisciplinary research in analytical and applied areas of social sciences and to provide the Central and Slate Governments assistance by conducting various policy-related studies, systematic studies of resourse potential, examining measures for reducing poverty both at macro and micro levels. It also organises Seminars. Workshops and Lectures, and conducts Training Courses/Programmes for University and College Teachers and Public functionaries. CESS is instrumental in establishing fruitful contacts with other institutions and scholars engaged in social science research through collaborative research programmes to develop and enrich social science research. The Centre has been recognised as a Centre for advanced research by Dr. B. R. Ambedkar Open University and the Osmania University as well as by the University of Hyderabad for external registration of Ph.D. Programmes.
