Children's Literature - Bonita Herold
Speleologists study caves and volcanologists study volcanoes, but the scientists who study waterfalls cannot be pigeonholed into just one category. They may be geologists, studying rocks in the riverbeds. They may be hydrologists, studying the effects of the water flow on the landscape. Or they may be ecologists, studying how waterfalls affect nearby flora and fauna. What the "waterfall scientists" are called does not matter; what matters is that they are doing something they love while advancing scientific knowledge. And who does not love waterfalls? This book provides information on the different types of waterfalls and the scientists who battle fast-moving water to study them. Great facts are included with fantastic photos; however, when being factual, comparing the height of a waterfall with something else should include a photo for comparison purposes. (Is everyone familiar with the Willis Tower?) As part of the "Landform Adventurers" series, this book presents educational material in an exciting way that will appeal to the adventurous among us.
