Dying of thirst is the new reality.

Five years after the last drop of clean water disappeared, global societies collapsed and nuclear war shattered all hope of recovery. In a place now only a skeleton of its former self, survivors fight to avoid capture by the government. Forced to work in factories that produce the only drinking water available, those who go in, never come out.

Zach and Vivienne have lived as deserters since they were teenagers. Fighting amongst their own and scrounging for the necessities of life, they've learned to rely on each other in every way. Yet when tragedy strikes and the true objectives of the government facility are revealed, their world is ripped apart. A fate once thought to hold their demise may be the sole answer to their survival. Who can they trust? Who can they believe?

In this life, it pays to be waterproof.

Going into this book, I was a little skeptical. The overly bad-ass heroine and the wannabe bad-ass hero together trying to make it through hell without getting killed. There was even a point that I stopped reading and went to the prequel to get some more info. I came back, and low and behold, this book really took off from there on. The chemistry that wasn't there at the beginning seemed to suddenly click and the story itself took us from the savaged humdrum of post-apocalyptic life to something more.

Vee is pretty bad ass, but her character isn't one of those sissy girls that suddenly becomes that way, but she seems to have always had a bit of a tough side to her and knows how to stand her ground. Zach has been wanting to reach out further to her, in a personal way, but was unsure of how to go about it. I mean, they're not thinking about prom night anymore but instead knowing every step they take can make or break their small band of deserters.

The author has come up with an ingenious and well thought out crisis. The world takes water for granted and we know we can live so many days without food, but not without water. Just the other day I was thinking about the water cycle and wondering just how, with all the human consumption and with all the other things we use water in and for, how does the cycle even come close to coming full circle?

The beginning of the book is a little, excuse the pun, dry, but come about 25% into the book and you start learning more about the group they are in and how they start to understand that the attraction they are feeling is mutual. Unlike some dystopia books, where they fight it off because life is so crappy, they actually embrace it and it's great seeing love blossom in a world where it would be so easy to shut it out.

There is action, adventure, loss, hope, romance, deception and triumphs all mixed into this book. Anyone who likes the dystopian genre would find this a great read and happily add it to their collection. I do recommend it for those ages 16+ due to some situations in the story itself.

Waterproof was provided by the author for an honest review
I was not sure what to expect with this book. I love the cover and the synopsis was just enough to capture my attention... I was not disappointed.
The world that Amber Garr has created in this dystopian tale is intriguing, suspenseful and a little heartbreaking at the same time. Zach and Vivienne are strong characters that immediatly befriend you, both as a couple and separately, as you follow them on their journey of "best friends" to "first love" and all of the emotions that go with it.
But, these two are not the only gems in this story, their companions throughout this adventure are memorable in their own ways. The story takes some unexpected twists and turns but just enough that you can not keep from turning the page. For readers who enjoy dystopian mixed with a little sci-fi this is a good read.

Dystopian Novel You Wont Want To Put Down

I loved this book. It was one of my favorites of all time. I love the detail that Author Amber Garr puts into her books. Vee is so strong and tough and Zac brings out her softer side. I love the whole concept of running out of water. It is somethong so possible. This is a great dystopian and you wont be dissppointed. I cant wait for book 2.

    Amber Garr

In this book, the author tells of a world where the water supplies are diminished and survival becomes everything. Over the 5 years since everything changed groups have developed, becoming families, who would do anything for each other to survive being captured or risk their lives to get just one bottle of water.

Right from the very start, I was completely gripped and drawn in by the characters, esp. Zach and Vivienne, although Hunter added a bit of light relief. There was a real sense of belonging, although not everyone gets along, you could tell they really cared for each other. I loved the twists that played out, and they kept me guessing what was in store next right up until the last page. The world building was gradual, and slowly developed throughout the whole book, leaving me with no doubts by the end that I needed more. The next book in the series can not come quick enough.

I received an e-copy from the author in exchange for an honest review.

I really enjoyed this book! It's a classic dystopia setting with a creepy twist. I really got attached to Zach as he is such a sweet, cool guy. It's not hard to get in his corner rooting for something to happen with him and Vee. I can see why it's "NA" but wasn't a sappy love story. I was left wondering how far Vee is going to go to keep her love safe! The author wasn't afraid to shake things up so I was hoping my favs would survive. I am extremely excited to read book two in this series!!! Thank you so much for sharing this story Amber!

    wonderful and intense!

Vee and Zach, along with a mismatch crew, are just trying to survive. Water is scarce and the government is looking for those who are hiding out. They want to use them to make water in the factories; the scary thing is you never leave once you get caught. So Vee and Zach must do what they can to stay alive and outrun the mercenaries. But when some of them get caught, the rumors they've heard might not be true. Maybe there is a world out there for them to live comfortably in and in peace. Or maybe there is something sinister lurking behind the factory's closed doors.

Books about the end of the world, or what seems like the end of the world to the characters involved, is just my cup of tea. Or glass of water? Ha! I couldn't stop myself. Get it? Since they have no fresh water anymore? Oh good grief. Moving on. Seriously though, these types of books get my mind turning and wondering. They make me think of the things I could live without or ways I would outwit those out to cause harm. And when a book gets a reader so involved, well, that is just fine by me. I would rather be so engrossed in a book, than to just have something to read and not get anything out of it.

As for the characters...I adored them. Vee is a fighter and a don't-take-crap kind of gal. But she also has feelings for Zach and is about to let him in on those feels. Zach is a smart mouth punk at times, but he shares the same feelings as Vee. Unfortunately their relationship is short lived as they are caught by some hot headed mercenaries. Not entirely sure how I feel for Riley though. He is one that I will have to keep reading on to try and figure out. Maybe, just maybe, he will redeem himself as the series continues.

I wasn't sure if this was going to be a series or not as I started it, but when the end came and proved that it was, I was happy. I realized as I got to that crazy ending I wanted more. I wanted more of the story, more of the characters. And now I have to impatiently wait for more to come. But can you imagine a world without fresh water? I know I can't. And it is rather scary to imagine.
