Overview

Waterside Cottages defines the attributes of successful coastal decorating, so that anyone, anywhere can create a casual waterfront atmosphere, even when the nearest body of water is a thousand miles away.

Waterside property holds an undeniable appeal, as do the cozy, casual dwellings that exist there. But waterside style need not--and often is not--confined to residences within walking distance of an ocean or lake. The details are what truly give cottages that elusive quality known as coziness. Cottages near the water tend to be snug and modest, with exteriors painted in sun-reflecting whites, nautical blues, or playful colors. The interiors of these houses likewise avoid formality in favor of a casual approach. For many cottage owners, the goal is to create the illusion that their décor is somehow "thrown together," albeit very tastefully.

From tidy New England beach cottages to bright tropical bungalows to a boathouse on the steep, pine-studded banks of the Kalamazoo River, Waterside Cottages showcases thirteen romantic havens, giving you inspiration for creating your own cozy waterside home.

For over Tweny-Five years, Barbara Jacksier has edited numerous magazines, including Cottage Style, Romantic Country, and Flower Gardens, and has contributed to the Ultimate Kitchen Book, THe Ultimate Bath Book, and Window Treatments Styles. Her feature articles also appear in Log Home Design magazine and Timber Home Living.

Born and bred in New York, her first exoeriences with the sea were at Conet Island, where her most memorable summer job was setting out beach chairs and umbrellas for apporeciative sun-worshipers.

Dan Mayers is a New York-based photographer whose work appears regularly in Cottage Style, Romantic Country, and Old House Interiors magazines. His previous books include Scalamandra, Extraordinary Interiors, and Dog Palaces. He resides with his family in Manhattan.

    Wonderful book but not ebook

This is a wonderful book. I have a Nook color and have been waiting for just the right book in COLOR. The photos are wonderful after downloading two times. The problem is that you can not read it horizontally which cuts off the photos and puts the text in-between the halves. I downloaded the PC app to check, and the layout is fine on the computer. Too bad that it does not translate to the nook size. It would have been swell.

Visually a great aid to getting the look I want.

I purchased the book looking for help turning an ordinary house into one with a seaside cottage feel as it is on the ocean. I had some basic ideas & I have been able to pull more from the book. Seeing ideas in picture form has made it easier to pull together.
