Brand New; store return; poss. subtle ding/s (ck 'Read More' details below). 100% Satis. Guaranteed! Fast Shipping. DETAILS: This book is brand new from a bookstore w/ clean, ... crisp pages. In fact, typically, it still has that wonderful new book smell, but note there may be a small imperfection such as a little cover crease or light scuffing or a store sticker on back. Often there is no ding or the ding is so small you can still give it as a gift. We just cannot promise it is gift quality every time, as we tend to have multiple copies and we cannot catalog and describe each ding (or lack thereof). SERVICE MATTERS: We stand by our name and offer an iron-clad 100% satisfaction guarantee. Winner of the 2008 MOM'S CHOICE GOLD AWARD in the category of juvenile fiction (ages 9-12)

Miho's backyard had always been the sea. The creatures within it were an endless source of fascination. But when the sea steals away her small family, she finds herself the ward of an uncle she has never met and submerged in a world she has never known: Japan. From the city of Nagoya to the seaside town of Goza, Miho struggles to fit in and navigate the language, the culture and her own grief. It is in Goza that she discovers her surprising family history and finds new teachers. She is befriended by an old man who becomes her Sensei and teaches her Sho-do, The Way of the Brush. And it is there she meets Gaia, the living entity of the Earth. Gaia grants her amazing powers to connect with the "minds in the water" and Miho is given access and understanding to all the world's oceans. Will she be able to use her powers to help balance the traditions of the past with the demands of the present? Can she overcome her outsider status to help others understand The Way of Water?

    I Also Recommend:

After Harry Potter and Twilight... the world needs more Gaia Girls

Book 2 is excellent. The characters have more depth, the story is faster paced and the action is riveting. Ms. Welles, please hurry up and write the rest of the series. We can't wait. I for one hope more tweens discover Gaia Girls. Every girl should read this series; strong girl characters, real-world science, easy-to-pickup and hard-to-put-down adventures. The series keeps getting better.

Pioneering eco stories for our future eco conscious world. Unlike other book fads, Gaia Girls inspires girls to love science and nature and make a difference in real-world around them.

Each of the books include puzzle games and hidden codes. Gaia Girls is highly recommended for girls of all ages, teachers (great read aloud or classroom kit), book clubs and libraries.

If you are looking for something more for your daughter or son, this is series is it!
