    Excellent Organized and Illustrated Technical book on WCDMA, HSPA, and LTE

    One of the best organized and illustrated technical books on universal mobile telecommunications system - UMTS that I've read. It explains how WCDMA, HSPA, and LTE systems are primarily packet based and is significantly different than its circuit switched GSM predecessor. There are good descriptions of key network elements including Node B (base stations), radio network controllers - RNC, subscriber databases - HLR and VLR, circuit switched gateways - GMSC, packet switched gateways/service nodes - GGSN. The physical and logical channel structures, their operation, and their relationships with each other (there are many channel configuration options) are explained well. If you need a technical understanding of WCDMA/UMTS, HSPA, and LTE radio access technologies and system elements, this is a great book for you.
