Intended as a read-along for an adult and a child, the pages on the left have three to five lines of writing while the pages on the right feature just one line in larger print. The adult page often ends with a question, and the child page provides the answer. After explaining that pigs roll in the dirt, the adult page asks a question, "Are these pigs clean?" The child reads, "No, these pigs are dirty!" Both the repetition of words found on the left-hand page and the use of very simple questions will encourage beginning readers to feel confident about their reading. Other creatures included are birds, bears, kittens, penguins, rabbits, and puppies. The adult text is in verse form, and each segments ends with the animals sleeping. The softly-colored illustrations are appealing and add clues to aid beginning readers in deciphering the words. Part of the "We Both Read" series. Reviewer: Phyllis Kennemer, Ph.D.
