Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Carrie Hane Hung
Besides learning, students have responsibilities to manage in their classroom. The students talk about their job and describe what they do to help in the classroom. Color photographs illustrate the helpers performing their duties like passing out materials or leading the line. Some of the pictures have captions that seem to be the comments of the helper. The bold print words in the text also are featured as a label for the snapshots; these vocabulary words are also in the glossary, which includes a pronunciation guide. The text briefly covers the roles that adults have at school and poses a question for further class discussion. In the back of the book, readers will find an index, two additional resources, and brief information about the author. Teachers may find this book helpful as an introduction for students about helper roles in their classroom. This text is one from the "Scholastic News Nonfiction Readers—We the Kids" series on citizenship. Reviewer: Carrie Hane Hung
