While dance music veterans such as Jellybean Benitez (Madonna, Whitney Houston) and Shep Pettibone (George Michael, Janet Jackson) might dispute Sean "P. Diddy" Combs's immodest

While dance music veterans such as Jellybean Benitez (Madonna, Whitney Houston) and Shep Pettibone (George Michael, Janet Jackson) might dispute Sean "P. Diddy" Combs's immodest claim in this disc's title, few can deny that the rapper, producer, and Bad Boy Records CEO helped transport the remix beyond the dance floor and onto mainstream radio. Ever ready for a reason to celebrate, Diddy has compiled the self-congratulatory We Invented the Remix, a companion of sorts to 1998's boastful Bad Boy's Greatest Hits. The disc's highlights include several of early 2002's hottest remixes: a version of Ashanti's red-hot "Foolish" entitled "Unfoolish," featuring Notorious B.I.G.; Diddy's "I Need a Girl (Part Two)," featuring Ginuwine; a remix of G. Dep's "Special Delivery," featuring Ghostface Killah, Craig Mack, and Keith Murray; and a special reunion of P. Diddy and his former protégée Mary J. Blige on the "No More Drama" remix. Glaringly absent, however, is the party-startin' remix of Mr. Cheeks' "Lights, Camera, Action!" featuring Diddy and Missy Elliott. Perhaps the shrewd Diddy is saving that cut for his next praiseworthy compilation.

Editorial Reviews

All Music Guide - Jason Birchmeier
Sean "P. Diddy" Combs isn't your standard remixer. He doesn't just alter the beats of his songs; he re-writes his songs -- new beats, new vocalists, new lyrics, new everything. Of course, Combs doesn't actually do this himself. Rather, he outsources the work to his roster of producers (the Hit Men) and some of the biggest names in urban music. So, even if you question Combs' artistry, it's difficult to question his hitmaking ability. Money doesn't seem to be an issue for Combs. He wants to make hit songs, and he's willing to do whatever it takes to do so, whether that means bringing in superstars like Usher or hiring sure-fire producers like Irv Gotti. And he indeed offers many songs on We Invented the Remix that are chart-topping quality, in particular the two versions of "I Need a Girl" and the Ashanti/Notorious B.I.G. duet "Unfoolish." In fact, in many ways, We Invented the Remix is better than Combs' previous album, The Saga Continues. Most every song here was -- or became -- a hit, and the abundance of guests spare you We Invented the Remix's weakest characteristic, Combs himself. He seems much more reserved here than he had on The Saga Continues, and since this album is of a modest length at only 12 songs, there isn't much space for filler. As a result, We Invented the Remix confirms Combs' return to the top of the urban music world after a few years of struggle.

This album was pretty tight because the song ''I Need A Girl'' is a real loud jam. It brings a sense of love and ''togetherness'' amongst people.

I'm not a big P.Diddy fan, but this album is pretty darn good! I really like the hip hop beats created in each of the tracks on this CD. It's something that I would bump in my car with the bass turned all the way up. If I were to have P.Diddy in my face right now, I would have to ask to shake the man's hand. He is really talented and this is, in my opinion one of his best works. My ears thank him as well. To anyone who is into the hip hop style, I recommend this CD. Plus on the disc you can find an mpeg video as a bonus feature.

I just got the ''We Invented the Remix'' CD today and let me tell you!!! This is one of tha best CDs i have purchased in a long time. P. Diddy took a bunch of hot tracks and remixed em all. When a songs remixed, it dont necessarily mean that u takin' a perfectly good song and ruinin' it- you just makin' it different na mean? People like variety and P. Diddy gave you a lotta that wit this cd. All yall that aint have it already betta cop that!!! ~Tricky J

Well what do you expect from P. Diddy? Lyrically weak ''MC'' with no mic skills and topics which rarely go beyond money and clothes. He's made a name for himself by ripping other artists' music, as opposed to making his own. This album is no different except for the fact that it's even more dull and unemotional than what we've come to expect from this wannabe rapper. To summarize the new album, which has only been played once by me, it consists of weak lyrics, recycled old music, and a whole lot of boring. Not worth your money.
