We Love the Nightlife is a nine-disc, disco-centric box set from Time-Life that contains many of the biggest dancefloor hits of the '70s and early '80s. That it's so generous, dominated by hits, and yet hardly thorough only speaks to the era's depth. Naturally, this is ideal for newcomers with voracious appetites and those who own only a couple disco compilations. Several artists appear more than once -- KC & the Sunshine Band's five inclusions are a bit much -- but there's still a remarkable amount of range. Marquee acts such as Chic, Donna Summer, Bee Gees, and Diana Ross are present, as are names that will be familiar to more serious disco freaks (Machine, Odyssey, Ralph MacDonald). Most of the discs contain 16 tracks, which leaves little room for full and extended versions. For whatever reason, we get the 11-minute version of "Disco Inferno," but the majority of the selections are in the three- or four-minute form.
