Simple text and photographs present doctors and their role in the community.
Children's Literature - Children's LiteratureThis very simple format book (42 words) introduces beginning readers to people in the community and explains their roles. A full color photograph accompanies the straightforward statement on the right-hand page. In this book kids learn where doctor's work and a little about the type of work they do. The photographs of hospitals, doctors' offices, and patients contain as much, if not more, information than the text. There is a table of contents, advice to parents and teachers, glossary (definitions are written at a higher level than the text), bibliography that includes at least three references and a similar number of Internet sites, and index/word list. This title in the "Helpers in Our Community" series has the look and feel of a regular reference book and is designed for emergent readers. 2000, Pebble Books, Ages 4 to 6, $13.25.
