    Matryona's House

This is one of Solzhenitsyn's finest works. I once heard from a colleague that Solzhenitsyn was not a fictional writer and that he was only capable of writing historical works. Well, this short story should be next to Tolstoy's 'The Death of Ivan Illich', Chekhov's 'The Little Trilogy', and Gogol's 'The Overcoat'. In this story he does not try to display any historical events or showcase the Soviet system, he simply write about a few moments in one mans life, and how our perceptions of life can be changed by the people we let into it. A great read, and all of those people out there that have read '1914' and 'The First Circle' will love the quickness and instant enjoyment of this read. Please set aside time for this story, you will not be sorry.
