Editorial Reviews

Mike Huckabee
Unapologetically Biblical in its approach to getting America back on the fast track to freedom and prosperity. If you want something lukewarm or platitudes in plain flavored pabulum, this book is beyond you. If you have courage and convictions, this book is your new soul mate. --Mike Huckabee, New York Times Bestselling Author and Fox News Host

    Thoroughly thought provoking

If you only buy one political book this year, We won't get fooled again, is THE book for you. I might add purchase, for all of your GOP, Christian, & independant friends. I believe this book will be an eye-opener, not just for Evangelic voters, but for ALL that read and absorb this astounding book. The interviews, especially Ann Coulters, will bring much thought to the reader. Thank you Gregg and Steve for your diligence and truths that have brought to light why we won't be fooled again!

This is a hard hitting truth telling read!

¿We Won¿t Get Fooled Again¿ is hard hitting and goes to the heart of the matter. It tears back the facade of so called ¿Conservatives,¿ and breaks through the pretense that morality is trumped by the need to win elections. The authors carefully make their case. With precision they destroy the R.I.N.O. Right, and expose the foolery of many of the so called ¿pro family¿ groups. I hope all American¿s hear their thoughtful insights.

A must read guide for saving America

An insightful, fast moving and eminently readable account of how the so called Christian Right lost the culture war, who was responsible, and what we must to to turn it around. Interviews with the "whos who" of what we all thought was the pro-family, pro-life, conservative movement build to a crushing crescendo of indictment, then turns like a bright light shining toward the path home. Some of the quotes I must share:

"...most culturally engaged Christians are better at defending Fox News than they are the Bible."

"we need to be less concerned about worldly retribution and more worried about eternal damnation."

"Instead of justification by faith, conservatives believe in justification by comparison. As long as they're a little less evil than their political opponents, they're worthy of a heavenly gold star."

"Spending our time calculating the lesser of two evils is what the devil would have us do. God would rather we focus on how much good we can do."

    Bravo Messrs Deace & Jackson!

Buy this book if you want to know what's wrong, and how and why we must Do Right!

    We Won't Be Fooled Again

    WE WON'T BE FOOLED AGAIN

    Book Review by Tom Ertl

Early in the reading of Deace and Jackson's new book my reaction was, "Finally! An honest in-house expose' of the failed national leadership of the Christian Political Right."

The authors' interviews with key players on the Christian Right reveal the hows and whys of the failure of these leaders, who for thirty years have led the troops and raised millions for evangelical political activism.

By 'failure' I do not mean election loses, but the misguided strategy of political pragmatism and accommodation of these evangelical leaders to truthfully represent God and His Word in the political sphere. Because of their limited Christian worldview they were never able to meet the challenge of a humanistic culture.

This book articulates what many Christian activists have recently sensed - that the old guard leadership of the Christian Right has succumbed to the establishment and become more of a de-facto wing of the Republican Party than an independent, fearless representative of the Christian faith speaking truth to the issues and institutions of our day.

In their desire to be Kingmakers the old guard has compromised the Christian position to the point where they have actually promoted policies and politicians that have accelerated the moral, social, and economic decline of the United States.

This book will mark the time in the history of the American Protestant Church when the old guard leadership of the Christian Right began to step aside and admit failure. It further sounds a clarion call for a new generation of Christian leaders to take up the mantle to represent Christ's Church in the civil sphere with a commitment to an un-compromised and comprehensive Biblical worldview.

    All Readers Will Be Disturbed

The reason for the reader's disturbance will vary based on perspective. If you are a GOP cheerleader then you likely be disturbed with the authors. If you've given your hard earned dollars to pro-family/pro-life organizations, then you likely be disturbed with the organizations mentioned in We Won't Get Fooled Again: Where the Right Went Wrong, and How to Make America Right Again by Gregg Jackson and Steve Deace. As a matter of full disclosure, this reviewer considers both authors close friends. Over the years I have shared hundreds of emails and hours on the phone with Gregg talking about the issues in this book. I just recently met Steve in person in Des Moines, Iowa and have shared dozens of emails with him dissecting the pro-family/pro-life movement specifically and GOP politics in general. I have been privy to most of the emails and have listened to most of the interviews addressed in the book. This book was a sad trip down memory lane. The premise of the book is "to subject it to the same scrutiny...the movement known as Christian Conservatives, the Religious Right, the Christian Right, Social Conservatives, or Values Voters." The scrutiny begins with very thought-provoking questions that will require critical thinking on the part of the reader. Some sycophants of the Republican Party and/or conservative movement may not get past this part in the introduction. Those who are willing to pursue the truth no matter where it takes them will be well advised to continue reading regardless their initial reaction. A very wise part by the authors is the "Well, Who Are You?" prologue where Jackson and Deace introduce themselves and give their backgrounds and how they came to write this book. This reviewer is well pleased by this because knowing these two intimately, they are very transparent in whom they are and their own personal struggles with the topic. The list of interviewees is part of the Who's Who in the pro-family/pro-life and conservative movement and their testimonies will disappoint, outrage, and/or shock the reader, simultaneously at times. Some readers will have their heroes destroy themselves before their very eyes; it was tough to see this the first time in the personal emails and listen to on the radio. It was even tougher revisiting the whole sordid mess again. Nevertheless, much hope and good advice are given not only by Jackson and Deace, but also at times by some of the interviewees, particularly Steve Baldwin, David Barton, Michael Farris, Gary Glenn, Brannon Howse, and Judge Roy Moore. This is much needed because the interviews from Ann Coulter, Richard Land, and Tom Minnery are most disappointing. Coulter is the darling of the conservative movement, Land from the largest US protestant denomination, and Minnery the political director for Focus on the Family. All three clearly choose pragmatism over a biblical worldview. And this is the takeaway from the book: the conservative/pro-family/pro-life movement is disturbingly destitute of a foundational biblical worldview. The authors gradually help the reader come to this conclusion through weaving together their question/commentary and the interviewees' words. We Won't Get Fooled Again is a must read for all tea party activists, traditional evangelicals, and those disgruntled with the modern conservative movement. It is also highly recommended to anyone who fancies him or herself a truth seeker.

    Economic bankruptcy from moral bankruptcy

While pundits seek answers in rocket science and Keynesian economics, Gregg Jackson and Steve Deace have a disarmingly simple explanation for our current malaise:
We are economically bankrupt because we are morally bankrupt.
For years we have been looking to the lesser of 2 evils to ¿save¿ America.
Voters never asked candidates about abortion. And yet the silent screams of millions of unborn babies were the canary in the coal mine, signaling trouble in all phases of political and economic life.
Romans 3:8 : Or can we say--as some people slander us by claiming that we say--"Let's do evil that good may result"? They deserve to be condemned!

The Wizard of Oz all over again

As I read this book, I saw with my own eyes the curtain pulled back on the "Religious Right." It was the Wizard of Oz all over again. This book was highly recommended and now I understand why. "Conservative" leaders have used elaborate tricks and sleight of hand to convince us for decades that they are on our side and represent the values we hold dear. Now I know the truth.

The authors interview those who have been on the inside and even include personal texts and emails from conservative favorites such as Ann Coulter. The content is nothing short of shocking. This book finally exposes the truth and it's really a must read before ever walking into a voting booth again. I truly believe that if this information gets in the hands of America's grassroots, we can restore righteousness again.

    An eye-opener of epic proportions

Before reading this book, try to prepare yourself to have your Christian conservative world turned upside down. For those who have not had the chance to really pay attention to Christian conservatism for the last couple of decades or so, you're going to discover that the status quo Christian conservative leaders and organizations haven't always been what they seem on the outside. Jackson and Deace in "We Won't Get Fooled Again" peel back the onion layers one interview and one commentary at a time, and expose the startling, sometimes ugly, hard truth that is the real Christian conservative movement. This is one of those books that you will read so quickly that you won't believe it consists of as many pages as it does, and don't be surprised if you find yourself itching to read it again. This is a book that has come about at the exact right time which is a year before perhaps the most important presidential election this country has ever experienced. Discover how to make America right again by reading "We Won't Get Fooled Again" as soon as possible.

    Great book!

Gregg Jackson and Steve Deace have written a comprehensive analysis of Biblical persepectives on the problems America is facing since she devolved into a secular state with no apparent recognition of God, His redeeming grace and His Truth. When many in the Christian right turned left, a few brave souls stayed the course. Jackson and Deace recognize this fact and the true meaning of courage. For a careful examination of leadership in the Evangelical community don't miss this book!
