Children's LiteratureOne in the series "My Report Links.com Books," this interesting approach to connecting information from the library and information found on the web makes using both easier, especially for novice internet users. Every purchaser of the series, supposedly school systems, automatically gains access to the accompanying web site, which is kept current for three years following the publication of the book. The pages look like computer screens and begin by listing the steps for accessing information on the web, followed by four pages of Internet sites about the Civil War. An incomplete list of weapons used during the Civil War precedes the main text that begins with a brief discussion on the events that lead to the war. A balanced political and economic look at both sides' strategies and the outcomes of the war conclude the book. Period photographs, maps and drawings add visual interest to this account of an important period of American history. It's a general overview that fails to include the social and economic horrors of the Civil War. An index and bibliography are included. 2004, Enslow Publications, Ages 8 to 10.
