Children's Literature - Greg M. Romaneck
Although the Civil War was fought 150 years ago interest in it persists. Thousands of books have been printed dealing with all aspects of Civil War history. Biographical studies of political, military and civilian leaders during the Civil War continue to be published on an annual basis. Battlefield studies of all elements of Civil War combat persist not only as annual publications but also as books that find a willing audience. It is with this continued interest in the Civil War in mind that one is amazed that despite the numerous books available on the Civil War fresh ideas continue to evolve on this subject. One such fresh look is Eric Fein's recently published Weapons, Gear, and Uniforms of the Civil War. In this slim volume, Fein provides his readers with very concise, illustrated look back at the material objects of war that made up the daily life of Civil War soldiers. Separate chapters detail the basic uniforms, ordnance, and weaponry that Civil War soldiers used in their deadly profession. Numerous period photos and illustrations augment the presentation and afford readers an opportunity to see what life was like for soldiers in that conflict. The end result of this combination is a readable and curiosity tapping book that should interest readers with any concern for Civil War history.
