Overview

A nightmare come true . . .

Years ago, a fifteen-year-old girl was abducted by a monster. Although she managed to escape, her tormenter was never caught. So the girl was given a new home, a new name . . . and the determination to save other foster kids from suffering similar horrors.

FBI Agent Becca Lange is in the middle of a credit card fraud investigation when she's faced with her worst nightmare: a serial killer, van Gogh--given the name because he removed his victims' ears--has resurfaced. Back in the nineties, van Gogh tortured, then killed several young foster girls. Becca was almost one of them.

Over the years, Becca's been keeping her own investigation going. So when the police come to her for help, she's more than ready to do what it takes to put van Gogh behind bars--even if it means working with Connor Warren, the easy-going cop whose attentions she's been avoiding. Connor is too charming, too good-looking, too . . . tempting. He makes Becca want things she can never have. And might never have . . .

Because van Gogh isn't finished with Becca yet. He's been searching for her all these years. And now that he's found her, he's got a plan to keep her . . . forever.

I just finished reading, Web of Secrets, by Susan Sleeman. It’s the third in her Agents Under Fire series. Wow - all the books in this series were amazing, so true to life I felt like I was watching a movie, not reading a book. This particular one, though, whether because I had invested in all the characters at this point and felt a part of the team or because of the subject matter, but I couldn’t put it down. I stayed up late, woke up early, skipped working all so I could find out what happened. And it wasn’t predictable! There were so many twists and turns and unexpected situations and multiple storylines and interwoven characters. It was awesome! Like I said, it was as though I was watching a movie or Criminal Minds on TV, not reading a book. The action was real, the characters were deep and the crimes spot on. At times a little too scary because these situations could truly happen in real life. And, this was just icing on the cake, but the main thread, the takeaway in this book was exactly what God has been speaking into my life lately. Not allowing things in the past (fears, etc.) keep me from truly living in the present. We all have things we are afraid of, ashamed of, disappointed in ourselves for, but instead of letting them drag us down to where we’re barely surviving, we need to let go and truly live each day to its fullest, with purpose and intent and joy. Wonderful series - I have already told many friends and family about this book and insisted that they go out and grab it. Anyone who enjoys suspenseful books, law enforcement and/or a little bit of romance, I would highly recommend this series.

I have been deeply invested in this series and couldn't wait for this book to come out! It's the 3rd book but can be read without reading the other two, no problem! Just be ready to put everything aside and not surface for hours because you wont be able to put it down once you start! Yes, it's THAT good! Susan has a way of making the creepiest villains I've ever read! She really gets into their heads and as you are reading, you know exactly what they are thinking, feeling and doing! It's probably one of the main thing that makes her books so fascinating to read. You know she does her research so well and it shows in her writing. I'm practically shivering as I read the creepy parts of the villains' thoughts and actions but I still can't put the book down! That says a lot because I detest horror movies and books! However, Susan doesn't make it too gross or bloody. She just makes it real enough for you to know what's happening but doesn't dwell on it long enough to make you sick! Ha ha!!! In this installment, we have Becca, who is the FBI agent who was taken by a serial killer when she was 15 but happened to escape. Of course it changed the direction of her whole life! Then, we have Connor, the homicide detective, who has worked with Becca before and is romantically interested in her but she shuts him down every time! When the serial killer comes out of hiding after 16 years, Connor gets the case and Becca gets assigned to help, even though no one knows she was once one of his "escaped victims". A roller coaster of happenings ensue and keeps you on the edge of your seat. The police procedure is very authentic and the story itself is so engrossing that I literally couldn't put it down until I finished it! Of course, I highly recommend it! It's fantastic!!!!

VanGogh's Ear!! Susan Sleeman is a master at exposing the minds of human beasts, while keeping her stories at once clean, terrifying, and romantic. Web of Secrets, third in the Agents Under Fire series, lives up to the expected hype of her previous novels. This tale focuses on fiercely independent, former foster child Rebecca(Becca), now on the FBI's Cyber Action Team. Formerly held captive by a madman known as Van Gogh, Rebecca holds guilt over her escape.Believing her escape cost another's death, she gains a new identity but spends all her spare time hunting for the crazed killer who is also hunting her. Identity theft crimes, insurance fraud, homeless foster kids who left the system only to find themselves easy prey, all help build this tense, taut story. Rebecca refuses to get close to the handsome police detective Connor, feeling love only engenders loss and distraction. She holds her secrets close to her vest. Usually thrillers just leave me very afraid, but in awe of the author who can weave such a tangled narrative. This one actually contained two lessons for me, and maybe others: 1)There is no "I" in team. A team needs everyone being honest, sharing what they know, being trustworthy. No one should be a loner. 2)Get rid of the pearl earrings, lol! Congrats, Susan Sleeman, truly a terrifically terrifying romantic thriller that I can trust to be clean, fun, and satisfying at the same time!! I received an ARC of this book from the author, publisher, and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Another well-crafted suspense novel! Though this is the third book in the series it is a stand-alone story. The only connection is that some of the main characters from the earlier books are secondary ones in this one. Susan Sleeman is a master at creating her characters. Becca Lange and Connor Warren are incredibly well developed. It was easy to understand what made them tick as their pasts were slowly, but completely, spelled out. She did a marvelous job of delving into the villain’s psyche without including graphic violence. The progression of the investigation was fantastic. It started very slowly with a few different cases being mentioned and both Becca and Connor trying to figure out what was the most important one to work on. Then as more information was discovered their priorities had to be adjusted. They were both trying to balance all of this even while trying to figure out their attraction to each other. It’s always nice to throw a little romance in with the suspense. With Becca being the third agent on the cyber-crime team it looks like this series is done. I’d really like to see it continue though since they have all been wonderful books. Since a rookie agent was introduced in this book though I have hopes that the series will go on. I received a free eBook copy of this novel from the author in exchange for my honest opinion.

First thoughts: My favorite part of a Susan Sleeman novel is the amount of detail she puts into the investigation side of the story. Web of Secrets was a entertaining read from start to finish. I liked having the perspective of the villain in the story. It made it more believable as he stalked his victim, you knew exactly how he was doing it. While a few parts of the story were a little on the creepy side, I'm glad the author didn't go into a huge amount of detail and get too graphic. I also enjoyed how the author brought in a new character, Taylor, and gave her a big role as a new agent. It was fun to see part of the story from the perspective of a 'newbie' learning the ropes. Plot: FBI Agent Becca Lange is working on a case of cyber crime when a victim surfaces from serial killer, Van Gogh. Detective Conner Warren is on the case, but Becca wants to be a part of the investigation. This case hits too close to home for her and she wants him stopped. When it becomes clear that he's after the one victim that escaped, Connor will have to do everything he can to keep Becca out of the line of fire. Characters: Becca has been through some difficult things in her life, but she's managed to become a successful FBI agent. She's serious and focused, completely unlike Conner, who keeps things fun and lighthearted. The two balance each other out and make sparks fly. I loved catching up with Nina and Kait, from the previous books, as well. Recommendation: I'd highly recommend this book to fans of romantic suspense. This doesn't fall into my usual reading of Inspirational and Christian fiction, but it's still free of any inappropriate content. While it's the third book in the series, Web of Secrets can stand alone. Rating: 4.5/5 stars I received a free copy of this book from the author and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

This is book three in the Agents Under Fire series, even though they are all stand alone books it is a great series all the way through and you get a little history about the characters throughout the series. Susan Sleeman does a great job at getting your interest from the beginning and keeping it all the way through her suspense, mystery, FBI type books. Her characters face very real problems and the task force is very realistic. This novel may contain material not for every age group, however Sleeman does a great job at describing a gruesome scene and letting you know what happens with out getting to graphic. FBI agent Becca Lange has a mind of her own, and likes doing things her own way. When she must work with Connor again will the sparks continue to fly or will she be able to stay aloof and professional. She has secrets of her own and when they come back to haunt her will she be able to solve this crime or is it more than she can handle. PPD detective Connor Warren knows he has feelings for Becca, but she has made it clear they are to remain professional. He is a free spirit where she is organized and distant. Can her get past her defenses before her past drags her down. If you enjoy reading good, clean, FBI, mystery, suspense books with a dash of romance you will love this novel. I was given a copy of this novel from the author for my honest opinion.

What can I say but WOW!!! Again, Ms Sleeman has outdone herself .If you like fast paced suspense, complex characters and some romance, written by a talented writer, this is the book for you. Becca is an FBI agent who as a foster teenager was adducted by a maniac serial killer. She escaped but since her life was in danger, she had to change her name and was sent to different foster parents. Once she became an FBI agent, she has become the expert on Van Gogh, her adductor. No one knows she was one of the victims. Connor , a detective she knows and has kept at a distance due to an unwanted attraction, is assigned to work with her when Van Gogh reappears . Needless to say, it’s a great book, Will there be a story for Taylor? Sure hope so. In the meantime ,run out and get the book. +I got this advance book in exchange of an honest review.

Book three in Susan Sleeman’s Agents Under Fire Series will leave you wanting to sleep with the lights on. The first two books of the series had some creepy villains but the one in book three, Van Gogh, is the definition of twisted and evil. After this one, I’m left wondering what kind of bad guy Sleeman will dream up next. Becca Lange has dedicated her life to finding criminals with the FBI cyber team and helping foster children on the side. But one decision, made when she was a teenage, continues to haunt her—and she has the scars to prove her nightmare was indeed real. She has spent years studying and researching the man who held her and her foster sister captive, the man she managed to escape. When a body of a teenage girl is found with the signatures of Van Gogh, the police ask for Becca’s help with the investigation. Determined to find out once and for all what happened to her friend, her sister, Becca agrees even though it means working with Connor Warren—the man who she can’t deny being attracted to. From the first page, readers get a peek into the psyche of the villain as he tortures his victim. Throughout the book, his addled mind and skewed perception of reality are laid out in a way that is both unnerving and frightening, especially when he sets his sights on our heroine. Becca’s struggle with her past prevents her from embracing any future happiness—something she believes she might be able to have with Connor. As a reader, I ached for Becca and what she’d been through, understood why she kept it a secret, and rooted for her to get justice. And I fell a little in love with Connor Warren, a man who works extra hard to put a smile on Becca’s face whenever he can. A man who is determined to protect her, even if it’s from herself. If you’re a fan of romantic suspense, put this one at the top of your list! ***Bell Bridge Books provided me with a complimentary copy of this book via NetGalley in exchange for an honest and fair review. I only recently discovered Susan Sleeman's books and I sure do love them! She writes inspirational and also clean fiction. The woman knows her business, too. This book opened with a sentence that reads, "She was going to die today." It draws you in and the fast paced action never lets up. Sort of like being on a roller coaster ride and not being able to get off. Great suspense. Each character is well developed, even secondary ones; their emotions make them seem like real people. This novel is 'Criminal Minds' worthy. I don't think they could have done any better. Truth. There is a vicious, deranged and incredibly cruel unsub on the loose, back killing young girls again after a 16 year break. An FBI agent who once escaped from this killer is now trying to stop him from killing even more young women. This was an incredibly powerful suspense novel, with some nice romance thrown in, but very clean. I enjoyed every moment, holding my breath many times throughout. *I was provided with a copy of this book from the author via Net Galley in exchange for my honest review, which I have given.
