This is a great book for beginners. Used at Devry University for Web Development courses, it's a great book to use to get to know the basics of HTML, XHTML, Macromedia(Dreamweaver, Flash and Fireworks) Photoshop 7, CSS and Java. It walks you through with exercises right in the actual programs step by step so you can get a feel of the basic functionality of all of them. Too bad books like these are hard to find.
