An excellent research dictionary for students or professionals.

The Webster's new College Dictionary is a great reference Dictionary. It is the perfect size to sit on the desk for easy access. The alphabetical tabs make locating a word quick and easy. The words are crisp and clear making reading a pleasant experience. The bold print also makes it eady to find and seperate each word, and the definition is written in a down to earth manner making it easy to understand the full meaning of the word in question.

    Most convenient dictionary to use.

When it comes down to it, all dictionaries are pretty much alike. But I could never figure out why so many create separate listings for biographical and geographical entries. This has always been my favorite, because biographical and geographical entries are in the body of the dictionary, and why shouldn't they be?

    more from this reviewer

Because you do not have a computer available at all times!

I purchased this dictionary as a gift for my son & his family.I was visiting the week before Halloween & was reading a book that contained technical words I didn't understand.I asked for a dictionary & was given the 1988 edition. Lo & behold! I found all 6 words I needed.
I've decided to keep this edition & purchase another for them!

    Defects of the software

First, it is said that the software 'let you add notes to definitions.' I have bought it and tried in vain; the publisher, after inquiring, told me that 'Unfortunately, this feature was not built into the software. You can define words selected within other programs such as a word processing documents, but you are unable to add notes to the database containing the definitions themselves.' Second, the window opened is too small, and unable to enlarge. If you want a good software, I think Cambridge Advanced Learner's Dictionary is better. It have pronunciations, and may pronounces automatically in Quickfind mode. The size of window is changeable. Nevertheless, WNW, with more entries, and clear definitions, is a good dictionary in itself for college students.
