Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature
Fourth in the "Katie Lynn Cookie Company" series, this entry follows the pattern of a story in which a cookie plays a major role. In this case, Grandma is getting married but the flowers don't show up, so Katie Lynn and her pal Tina bake Peanut Butter Cookie Flower Wreaths (recipe included) and save the day. Along the way, a dress-designing relative makes a mess of the bridesmaid and flower girl dresses, bratty relatives arrive by the carload, but everything evens out in the end. A contrived but predictable plot with some silly additions (a dog that attacks four dresses), superficial secondary characters, and plenty of conversation make this a quick read for young girls who want to read pleasant but undemanding fare. It is told in seven chapters with frequent black-and-white illustrations. 2001, Random House/Stepping Stone, $3.99. Ages 6 to 9. Reviewer: Susan Hepler
