Enjoyed the story but it jumped around a bit. It took me a bit to get in to the book. Loved Sophies character, and Keene was ok but u gotta love Victor's character. Was happy with the book in the end. :)

I am starting to think some of these reviews are being written by friends. I was totally disappointed. It wasn't funny, it was stupid.

This series is clearly meant to be read strictly in order. It's NOT one of those novel series that allows you to start with any book and focuses on a particular character(s). I wish I had known that before starting with this book. Quite frankly, I somehow totally missed that it was part of a series until I sat down to do this review. I generally felt lost as only references were made to plotpoints which I assume are contained in Book 1, The Dueling Pistols. Otherwise it was rather entertaining.

This story was stupid. Way to long to tell and some of the dumbest men I have ever read about. Normally I love these stories but not this one.

But she has the weakness of jumping around and the book is long. However her writing is excellent and she has a wonderful cast of characters.

While this book has a great deal of potential to be a very riveting story, I'm afraid the author didn't quite follow through on making it the best it could be. The characters and intertwining plots are very interesting, but there was not enough description or development. There was pretty much no background given, the pace was too slow in the beginning, and then there was no resolution after the climax. I can understand leaving the fates of the characters to the imagination of the reader, but it felt like the book just ended right in the middle of a scene. Mediocre, could've been great, and I'm highly disappointed it wasn't. However, for the low price I say it's a worthwhile investment for someone who is clever at reading between the lines and drawing their own conclusions. ALSO: I'm extremely tired of books that have the women forgiving the men in their lives without even demanding even a hint of explanation! I understand this is a historical piece, but c'mon! This is read by modern women, and I find it highly irritating that women are weak when it comes to their men. So, suffice it to say, the women in this book are not especially strong of will (or, it seems, of mind).
