Barnes & Noble - Tracy E. Hopkins
On WELCOME II NEXTASY, R&B bad boys Next pick up where their naughty debut RATED NEXT left off. This time around, there's little time for the dance-floor foreplay that transpired on their megahit "Too Close." With this steamy set of predictable yet pleasurable tracks, T-Low, R. L., and Tweety head straight for the bedroom -- most explicitly on the "Bills, Bills, Bills" response "What U Want" featuring Beanie Sigel "Girl I'll pay your bills/If you freak me like I want/I'll give you something you can feel", and the booty call anthem "Call On Me." But as the requisite computer love song "Cybersex" and the self-explanatory "Jerk" featuring 50 Cent indicate, when it ...

This time around, there's little time for the dance-floor foreplay that transpired on their megahit "Too Close." With this steamy set of predictable yet pleasurable tracks, T-Low, R. But as the requisite computer love song "Cybersex" and the self-explanatory "Jerk" featuring 50 Cent indicate, when it comes to orgasmic matters, Next aren't afraid to let their fingers do the walking. The Minnesota trio does apparently know the difference between sex and romance -- displaying a sensitive side on the surprisingly wholesome ballad "My Everything" and the yearning, percussion-anchored "When We Kiss." On the latter track, Next offer tender lyrics such as "Let's turn off the lights and set the mood for kissing all night." Corny as that may sound, it's a nice diversion from the begging and panting. Let's just hope that Next continues to show they can flatter women as skillfully as they can seduce them.
All Music Guide - John Bush
Though there's no breakout hit the quality of "Too Close," Next's sophomore album Welcome II Nextasy is smoother and features a better overall production than their debut. The trio's version of hip-hop-soul is just as explicit as before; from "Cybersex" to "Let's Make a Movie" to "Banned from TV," Next proves themselves the Barry White of the '90s. Still, the hit single "Wifey" and "Beauty Queen" are less sex-obsessed than Next has been in the past, and the group keeps their tenuous rap credentials intact with the opener "What U Want" featuring Beanie Sigel.

    This cd is tight!

Next's new album definitely deserves 5 stars. The album shows much growth in the group. Next stills maintains to hold down the tight slow songs. Even the fast ones are da bomb.
