School Library JournalGr 3-5-A colorful, relatively simple introduction to France, as narrated by young Gregoire. The text covers family life, school, sports and leisure, culture, cities and landmarks, transportation, and more. There is also an abbreviated history. The bright, captioned, color photos on every spread include pictures of Gregoire, the Concorde, and a 16th-century chateau. Not all French words are defined in the glossary, and there is no pronunciation guide. The authors include a recipe and a game, which are intrusive. Overall, though, this is one of the better books on France available for this age group, and will be helpful for students not yet ready for Don Nardo's France (Children's, 2000), which is more detailed.- Ann W.
