Overview

Guns N’ Roses fans know the Use Your Illusion tour went on nonstop from 1991 to 1993. They know that concerts sold out in minutes all over the world so fans could hear chart-topping singles Welcome to the Jungle, Sweet Child of Mine, Paradise City, and November Rain live. They know the Use Your Illusion tour was the last for the band with Slash and Duff. But they’ve only heard rumors of the behind-the-scenes shenanigans.

Fortunately for fans, Craig Duswalt hasn’t just heard rumors—he knows what went on backstage on one of the longest and most popular music events because he lived it.

As Axl Rose’s personal assistant during the ridiculously long world tour, Duswalt experienced things that would make most people run the other way and never look back. And in Welcome to My Jungle, he shares the sometimes hilarious, sometimes just plain reckless, and always insane actual happenings on the tour.

A true must-read for Guns N’ Roses fans, Welcome to My Jungle delights readers with hilarious and entertaining exclusive firsthand stories like:

•The day Axl Rose, Kurt Cobain, and Courtney Love got into a “huge war” backstage at the MTV Awards
•Why Guns N’ Roses are forever linked to Charles Manson
•The night Liz Taylor walked in on a very nude Slash—and stayed a while

Featuring little-known facts for the ultimate GN’R fan, Welcome To My Jungle gives an inside look at what it’s really like to live and work with a hugely popular band, from the middle of a rock and roll hurricane.

I've always been interested in the mega GN'R tour of 1991-1993. I figured this book would give me a deep insight into what actually happened; why Axl was late so often; what Slash and Duff thought about Izzy and Steven etc... The reader does get some of those tidbits and anecdotes but... Sometimes I felt like I was reading a book written by a MEMBER of GN'R, not an assistant to a band member. The author clearly considers himself part of GN'R and goes into detail about how he was surrounded by fans and given special privileges throughout the tour. If you want GN'R, read It's So Easy (and other lies) by Duff McKagan- far better book by a far better writer with a far more humble perspective.

Craig Duswalt is a brilliant marketer, great storyteller, and business rock star in his own right. Yet he's one of the most down to earth and truly genuine people you could ever know. If you're looking for a book on dirt, this isn't it. Instead, all of Craig's attributes are brought together in the funny, inspiring, and insane stories as he lived them. If you don't know about Gun N' Roses before reading WELCOME TO MY JUNGLE, or even if you've been a loyal fan, you're in for a real rock star tour as Craig Duswalt, a regular guy, lived it.

If you want to go behind the scenes and see how one of the top Rock Bands behaved...This book is for you.  Craig Duswalt lifts the velvet curtains and gives us a peak into a world we may never see.  And it is an enjoyable peak.  Even if you are not into Rock - you will love this book.  Thank you Craig, Maurice DiMino

I would have had to have been on tour with the band to get any closer to the action. Zikes! You gotta read the antics of this guy and the group of rockers that are idolized by millions. Fantastic read!

I'm a rocker through and through - a fan with no musical ability, I collect recordings, attend countless concerts, and gobble up rock books like some of my heroes once gulped, guzzled, and gorged on drugs, booze and excess. Craig Duswalt’s new memoir “Welcome To My Jungle” features many of road stories from 1991-1993, when Guns N’ Roses were the biggest band on the planet and Axl Rose was the world’s most worshiped rock star. As Rose's "first" assistant - mind you, Craig was so busy herding his boss that he needed an assistant of his own - super fans like me are treated to his firsthand account from behind the scenes of a hugely successful band and tour. It doesn't get any better than this. Yes, it got crazy at times, very crazy in fact, and Duswalt tells the true tale of those wild years with an eye for detail and a humor seldom seen in such volumes. You'll never believe how Axl Rose kills moths that get into his home, and you'll never look at a fly swatter the same way after reading Craig's account of this hilarious fiasco. And if you ever wondered what it took to get Rose out of his hotel and to the stage - and why G-n-R could be so late in starting certain shows - the stories you'll read will shed new light on the whole idea of 'the show must go on.' Indeed, the same brilliance that Craig Duswalt employed to keep his boss, super-star on the guitar Axl Rose, satisfied, somewhat sober, and pointed in the right direction, show through in the brilliant storytelling that is the heart and soul of his new book “Welcome To My Jungle.” Get a copy and take your own trip to the jungle.

As a huge G&R fan, I absolutely loved Craig Duswalt's book Welcome To My Jungle.  I found myself laughing  because I know this stuff really happens.  I've seen and transferred the Home Movies of many of the biggest rock bands and have seen some of the stuff that happens.  Everyone should read Welcome To My Jungle.  Great book Craig Duswalt!

I've seen Craig Duswalt deliver motivating, energetic and fun performances at seminars, so it was natural to buy his book to get more of him. His ability to put a smile on my face in "Welcome to My Jungle" is equal to what he does in person. Most of us can only assume what happens behind the scenes at rock concerts and can imagine the weird and wacky personalities behind the musicians. Craig Duswalt gives such descriptions that go FAR past my imagination. "Welcome to My Jungle" is mind-blowing...hard to believe these experiences he's had as Axl Rose's personal manager. But they are real. WOW. I don't think I'll be able to hear the song "Sweet Child of Mine" without picturing the great Elizabeth Taylor looking at Slash naked!! GREAT book. Much recommended!

The stories Craig tells in this book are so funny --- no wait --- hilarious -- no wait --- downright unbelievable...come on, Axl throwing a TV out the window of a hotel room into the pool? I admire Craig for keeping the stories fun, truthful and lighthearted, and I appreciate that he is not one of those "tell all's" that throws his friends under the bus. Thank you Craig for a MOST entertaining book!!! Dave Nassaney

This is a fun book, whether you're a Guns N' Roses fan or not. I personally could care less about them, mostly because I prefer country to rock, especially hard rock.  I thought this band was one that deserved little respect, but after reading this, I understand them a lot better and my attitude toward them has softened significantly.  Mostly this book is just a fun read that humanizes these quirky characters and gives a great, insidery view of what life on the road in the golden age of GNR was like. I read most of it on the first day I bought the book. It's just hard to put down.  Enjoy!  (There's a  problem with the website - it won't let me create a name, so I have to post as "Anonymous" so I'll identify myself)  Judy Schriener

Craig Duswalt does an amazing job of bringing you behind the scenes with one of the greatest bands of all time, Guns N' Roses. Not a tell-all book, but a funny and personal look at the hectic and often unpredictable world of being on the road as Axl Rose's personal manager. Great stories that you're just not going to find elsewhere. Simply wonderful!

What a fun way to read a behind-the-scenes account of touring with Guns and Roses.  He's a regular guy recounting years of his touring, without the "tell-all" stories that would turn this book into a supermarket tabloid. I appreciated reading his stories as Axl Rose's personal manager, as I myself spent 30 years managing attorneys as a legal secretary.  Yes, Craig's stories are funnier and more insane than mine, but it was fun to read how he did his job with such efficiency in the days before cell phones and the Internet.  Great job!

This book is about the authors trials and tribulations of touring with the band Guns N Roses.  Craig was Axel Rose's personal manager (and babysitter) and the book chronicles life on the road with the band.  There is a lot of humor and the book was a lot of fun to read.  I'd recommend it for anyone. Craig, I didn't want to put the book down, it was a real page turner.  It also left me with a sense that there was much more to what went on than what could be put in this book.   It was a great read. Congratulations!
