Editorial Reviews

School Library Journal - School Library Journal
Gr 2-4-Two books that cover their respective country's land, history, government, culture, and lifestyle. Information such as the Netherlands's attractive modern architecture of Piet Blom shown in contrast to the old gothic architecture is striking when viewed through the colorful photographs on every page. On the other hand, in the interest of brevity, some sentences lack clarity. Examples are: "In Sweden, winter days are dark as night, and summer nights stay daytime bright." Why? Or, "While windmills have become a symbol of the Netherlands, the Dutch did not invent them." Who did? Each book ends abruptly after a chapter on food. Flags, maps, and suggestions for further information (without publication dates for the books) are included. Large font provides reading ease. Strictly supplemental fare.-Blair Christolon, Prince William Public Library System, Manassas, VA Copyright 2003 Cahners Business Information.
