Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Marilyn Courtot
Winter is that time of year in the northern hemisphere when it gets cooler and, in some areas, downright cold. The toddler on the cover is dressed warmly as he sits on a sled and has his arms outstretched—perhaps to catch the shiny snowflakes falling around him. The opening spread does not show him too happy to have snow falling, but the next image is a happier scene, when he walks and the snow crunches under his boots. The snowflakes on the cover have a tactile sensation as do the big ones on the opening spread. The wind is not something easily described, but sparkly swirls let toddlers' fingers run across the pages. Making a snow angel is a great activity, but again, being dressed warmly makes this fun. A soft cap keeps this young boy's head warm, but I am afraid it misses his ears, which will get cold mighty fast. The closing spread brings him inside with a view of a big snowman and a cold winter scene out the window under the curtain-like flap. Large images in bold colors will add to this book's appeal. This book is part of the "Little Scholastic—Touch and Feel" series. Reviewer: Marilyn Courtot
