Overview

Preparing quality food is among the most caring things we can do for ourselves and the people we love. That's why Well Fed: Paleo Recipes For People Who Love To Eat is packed with recipes for food that you can eat every day, along with easy tips to make sure it takes as little time as possible to get healthy, delicious food into your well-deserving mouth. If you count meals and snacks, we feed ourselves about 28 times each week. All of the Well Fed recipes — made with zero grains, legumes, soy, sugar, dairy, or alcohol — were created so you can enjoy your food every time.

The two essential tricks for happy, healthy eating are being prepared and avoiding boredom. Well Fed explains how to get in the habit of a Weekly Cookup so that you have ready-to-go food for snacks and meals every day. It will also show you how to make Hot Plates, a mix-and-match approach to combining basic ingredients with spices and seasonings to take your taste buds on a world tour. The recipes are as simple as possible, without compromising taste, and they've been tested extensively to minimize work and maximize flavor.

With 115+ original recipes and variations, this book will help you see that paleo eating, too often defined by what you give up, is really about what you'll gain: health, vitality, a light heart, and memorable meals to be shared with the people you love.

Meet the Author

Melissa Joulwan's favorite spice is cumin. Her favorite vegetable is cabbage. Her favorite book is Jane Eyre. Her favorite city is Prague, and her favorite band is Social Distortion. You might have known all of that already if you follow her blog The Clothes Make The Girl. The Clothes Make the Girl is an unusual title for a blog that’s about her tales of triumph and failure in the gym, in the kitchen, in life.

Melissa has been following a 90% strict paleo diet since 2009 when she underwent a thyroidectomy. In the aftermath of the surgery and recovery, she became particularly interested in how diet affects hormones, body composition, mood, and motivation.

Well Fed is her second book. Her first is Rollergirl: Totally True Tales from the Track, a memoir of her experiences as one of the founders of the Texas Rollergirls, the original Flat Track Roller Derby league. She has appeared on the Today Show and Good Morning America in her roller skates and fishnets. These days, she's hung up her skates, and her workouts are just as likely to include yoga and meditation, as lifting heavy things and trying to stay ahead of the CrossFit stopwatch.

In 2012, Melissa’s blog won the Homie Award from The Kitchen for “Best Healthy Cooking Blog” — and Well Fed was the winner the 2012 “Best Cookbook” Award at the San Francisco Book Festival. She is also a Community Ambassador for Experience Life magazine and has been a featured chef for U.S. Wellness Meats.

She lives in Austin, Texas, with her husband Dave and their cat Smudge.

I have made 4 recipes in the first 24 hours of getting the book and all
have been great! Melissa's writing style is friendly and easy to enjoy!
The Bora Bora Fireballs are awesome as was the Shepherd's Pie! We are
on day 20 of 30 days of clean eating (Whole 30) and these recipes make
it SO easy and delish! Thanks for two great dinners in a row! Pictures
and Directions are great as well!

I am a recent convert to Paleo eating and had to relearn how to cook
after years of processed foods. Well Fed made it so easy. The recipes
were clear and easy to follow, and best of all they taste great!
Melissa's charming way of presenting ideas and ways to make each recipe
a few different ways was so helpful. Who knew that cauliflower and
cocoa were made for each other? This is the only cookbook in my kitchen
that actually has food stains on it from use. I highly recommend this cookbook.

I absolutely LOVE this cookbook. I have been following the author's
blog for a while and was very excited when her cookbook was released.
The pictures are great, the recipes are easy to follow and delicious.
She uses inexpensive ingredients and gives tips on how to plan ahead for
weekly meals. I have recommended this cookbook to many friends who are
beginning a Paleo lifestyle and they have all loved it.

    Must have

This for me is a must have book if you are starting the Whole30 program. It provides great ideas, an amazing mayonnaise recipe and lots of solid recipes that have proven very helpful.

This is by far the best cookbook out there. It doesn't just teach you
what to cook, it teaches you how to cook. The tips for planning ahead
in the week has really been a lifesaver for me. I am now eating foods I
have never even tried before. My autistic daughter even eats some of
the recipes and she hates just about any type of healthy food. A
great book for everyone in the family.

    Love, love, love this book!

I'm trying to eat a health, paleo diet and have bought several paleo cookbooks recently. This is a must for anyone - paleo or not. I love the format, the humor, the pics, the recipes. I have made many of these recipes for my family - who are NOT trying to eat a paleo diet - and they have really enjoyed every recipe I have made. If I could only keep one paleo cookbook - this would be it!

I love this book! Every recipe I've tried (up to 4 now) has been a huge hit-my son was eating the left overs for breakfast, the were so good. I've taken the chocolate chili to two different pot lucks, and everyone who tried it wanted the recipe. They are easy to follow, and I love how Melissa notes how you can change a recipe by adding something or removing something. Well written, and fun to read. This is my go-to cookbook now. I Melissa is coming out with another one, and can't wait. I've only had this book a short time and it's already dog eared and I've added notes here and there. I highly recommend this book, for seasoned cooks (no pun intended) and new cooks.
