Overview

In the potentially oil-rich southern California town of Mayberry, it is a summer of money and mayhem. It is also the eighteen-year-old Wilson boys' last summer in town. Joey is ready to party and ignore his confusion about what to study in college. His cousin and best friend, Frank, is worried that going away to college will be abandoning his mother, Grace. Both Frank and Grace are still grieving for Frank's dad, Grant, who died under mysterious circumstances ten years ago. Grandpa Will is trying to help both boys grow up.

At a triathlon, they make a new friend, Cody, a triathlete and geocacher. She has insights that lead them first to an abandoned oil well, then on adventures in the city, the wilderness, and cyberspace. What they learn affects the whole town because the money is in bitcoins and the mayhem may include murder.

Meet the Author

Rubin Johnson is the father of two sons, both now in college. He is married to Lauren Chin Johnson, who published her first novel in 2012. The family has lived in Whittier, California since the 1980s.

Rubin studied engineering at Harvard College before earning his Ph.D. in Operations Research at the University of California at Berkeley. His interests in theoretical computer science show up in his fiction.

Rubin has been active in endurance sports since college. He did his first triathlon in 1984. Since 2011, he has completed four Ironman triathlons which consist of swimming 2.4 miles, cycling 112 miles, and then doing a 26.2 mile marathon. He has run numerous 10K races, half-marathons, marathons, and completed several 2 mile ocean swims. Rubin cycles a lot - he's completed numerous 100 mile rides and a single day ride of 200 miles.
