I wrote this book to be a teaching aid as seen through the eyes of your best friend. We all love our dogs and we all face the daily task of setting the hierarchy in our home. Your dog is constantly trying to challenge us and prove they are the top dog. If properly trained, your dog will realize that you are in charge and will always be the top dog.
A lot has been written about the human responsibility as “pack leader” and the importance of never allowing your dog to dominate you.
Do not feel so obsessed with being the leader and authoritarian that you cannot let your dog play.

Meet the Author
My name is Patricia Griecci and I love animals – especially dogs. Smiling Dog is named after my dog Spike. I figure he’s smiling because I spoil him rotten with treats, toys and most of all – love. And that’s how I got started creating fun and healthy dog treats and cakes. I wanted to include the dogs in my traditions, so I started baking all natural, human grade ingredient dog cookies and treats based on Spike and his four-legged friends flavor preferences.
When I moved to San Francisco in 1996 and threw Spike his annual Halloween party, people started calling and requesting the treats. Strangers appeared at my door begging to buy the cookies since their finicky dogs normally did not eat dog cookies but they would eat Spike’s. Even funnier, dogs that previously ate well known competitive brands – refused to eat them after having Spike’s cookies.
Smiling Dog cookies are made with all natural, human grade ingredients. Stuff so good that you could eat them yourself (and some folks do)! Each flavor was based on a flavor preference of one of Spike’s friends. We even created a line of wheat, corn, soy and dairy free cookies for our four-legged friends with allergies!
To help out Spike’s buddies who aren’t as lucky as him, we donate to local pet charities. We use recyclable materials whenever possible so there will be plenty of open spaces for all animals to play, now and forever and then some.
