Sir Charles William Chadwick Oman (1860-1946) was a British military historian.  His meticulously researched histories are invested with a lively human sympathy which engenders a novelistic feel.  Among his chief works are The Art of War in the Middle Ages (1885) and History of the Peninsular War (1902-03).  He was knighted in 1920.
