BGO's 2013 three-fer combines Chris LeDoux's three commercial comeback albums from the early '90s -- 1991's Western Underground, 1992's Whatcha Gonna Do with a Cowboy, and 1993's Under This Old Hat -- over the course of two discs. Garth Brooks endorsed LeDoux around this time and it certainly had an effect, sending the albums into the upper reaches of Billboard. LeDoux remains a perfectly affable singer, so nice it's almost a fault -- he's never in risk of offending, he's always smiling through his modulated swagger -- but he has a good ear for material and his friendly touch is hard to resist. LeDoux may not offer a compelling reason for somebody to listen to his albums, but once you start, it's hard not to get sucked into his modulated swagger and cheerful shuffles. His gift is his easy touch, which is why LeDoux was never a star, but it's also why his albums have aged well.
