School Library Journal - School Library JournalGr 1-4 Behrens introduces whales in an easy reader format with beautiful color photographs on every page. This is a joy to browse through and discover such special characteristics as the baleen whales' double blow hole and the single blow hole of the toothed whales. Basic information is simply presented and beautifully illustrated. Berger's book is largepicture book size and formatwith full-page color illustrations on every page and beautiful endpapers. Its simplification of information retains the essence of the life of whales. Included are excellent pronunciation guides, size comparison to familiar objects , and lively stories about the derivation of whales' names . There's also an excellent description of the difference between dolphins and porpoises. Occasionally the topics are not clearly delineated on the page, and may not match the illustrations, but overall this is an excellent choice for the beginning marine mammal enthusiast. Frances E.
