Vanessa Witte is ready to finally claim her life. The middle of three daughters born into the Witte family - a powerful Texas name - she's been content to float through life. Being dumped by her shady ex? A blessing in disguise. Having a one-night-stand with Matias Barnes? Not one of her more stellar moments. But she's back in Lockhardt with a secret and a reason to start fresh: A baby.
Matias Barnes knows all about society women - it's part of the reason he left his wealthy family behind and took a job on a ranch. He doesn't like the endless string of parties, the inane conversation, or the gold-digging tricks those women have perfected. But that doesn't stop him from wanting Vanessa Witte. Mat knows she's so not right for him, but with her back in Lockhardt, can he resist her charms long enough to really let her go?

The story of Vanessa and Mat was very good and I enjoyed their happiness and was sad for their pasts that negatively impacted their present... They were both so afraid to love and that is always difficult when forming a relationship... So hard to trust... As with most short stories I felt the end was abrupt but hope the story continues in Monica's book as Kathleen's story carried over into Vanessa's... Fast read and you will Read and Enjoy.
I enjoyed the first 'Texas Girl' book and this sequel gives you more of the same characters, this time centering on the middle Witte girl, Vanessa, and ranch foreman Matias Barnes. Both Vanessa and Mat want to move beyond their respective pasts. With a baby on the way, the result of a one-night stand, this becomes even more important to them. Overall, I liked this story, although I did have a couple of issues with the plot line that a good editor should have caught. It is mentioned on at least two occasions that Mat had physical therapy after an accident; however, later in the book he says that he 'didn't have a scratch on me' as a result of that same accident. Also, as Mat has been effectively 'off the grid' in Texas for five years and has slightly altered his appearance, I find it hard to believe that Van's mother would so easily recognized him as THE Matias Barnes, heir to a Silicon Valley fortune. Again, overall I enjoyed the book and have already bought the next in the series to see what happens with the third sister. FYI, for those who like to know this before buying, there are no overly descriptive love scenes in this book.
Oh cripes, those stirrups! Yep, Vanessa is officially in a world of hurt, but oh, do I applaud her strength and determination. Not exactly coddled, not exactly wealthy, not exactly welcome anywhere, she is assumed to be all that and more, and she’ll need every ounce of her strength and determination to prove everyone wrong. And the man of her dreams? Matias is the (unsuspecting) father of her child, and he works hard to project an image that he is poor and humble, with nary a silver spoon in sight, and yet… Both are running to escape a past they either don’t want to remember or don’t want to acknowledge, and they’ve inadvertently run right into each other. Will it work? Can they put their assumptions aside long enough to see the obvious – that they were made for each other? Only time and plenty of Texas heat will tell. I love visits to Texas, and this author took me there for a time, and I thank her for that. Very well done. I purchased this book online and have given this review freely and without monetary compensation.
Need is better than want...in real life and in Kristina Knight's Texas world. I loved this story of a poor little rich girl, trying to find her way. And what a great twist on her own Prince Charming. I rooted for Vanessa to find her happy ever after, especially, when she found out that what she had wasn't real or what she needed. Knight has a winner on her hands with this sister book. Can't wait for the third in the series.
A follow-in to Kristina Knight's first book, "What a Texas Girl Wants," this book tells Vanessa's story. She returns to her father's Texas ranch to confront Matias Barnes, the ranch foreman. He was the one-night-stand she had after her sister's wedding--and he's the father of the baby she just found out she's carrying. The ranch is the place where some of her only happy childhood memories were formed but it's also where she feels out of place. But then, she feels out of place everywhere. Her ex-husband took all their friends when he left; she hates the huge house she got in the divorce and she can't ride a horse to save her soul. It takes a bull sale, half the book and more scorching looks than you can count for her to finally come to terms with her feelings for Mat and to tell him he's about to be a daddy. But the secrets he's hiding make him less than open and honest with her about anything except wanting her. They struggle to make the relationship work but finally find what they both need in a satisfying end to the story. I love Knight's way with words. Her deft characterizations and descriptions clog the reader's throat with Texas dust and clutch at the heart as you root for the couple to find their happyily-ever-after. Sure hope there are more Texas girls on the way!
