What Anna Loves celebrates the industrious life of a working ranch as seen through the eyes of a little girl. Anna exuberantly shares her love of everything from walnut-shell boats to fence mending, from the fun of packing oranges to hay rides. Just don't expect her to muck out those smelly stalls! Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Beverley Fahey
In charming rhyming couplets, readers are taken back in time to celebrate life at a working California ranch in the 1950s. Anna describes all the things she loves about her grandparents' farm, like " rows ready for seeding, shady nooks for reading" and the things that she does not love such as "mucking out smelly stalls, stinky clothes when she falls." The little girl is a delight whether she is riding her horse, swinging on a rope swing, or climbing a tree to pick apples. Watercolor illustrations in warm hues evoke a simpler time, and readers can almost taste the sweet berries and smell the aroma of a freshly baked pie. With the disappearance of the family-owned farm, this is an excellent slice of Americana to share with children. An appended photo gallery honors the author's family members on their working farm in the early years of the last century.
