Children's Literature - Lisa Colozza Cocca
Part of the "Plants Close Up" series, this title informs readers what seeds are, what they do, and how they are spread. Each page holds two or three lines of well-spaced bold text and a full color illustration. Many of the illustrations include labels identifying the type of seed in the picture. Children may be interested to learn that seeds grow inside some plants and outside others, and come in many different shapes and sizes. The text also includes information about grains and grain products. The book also includes information about what seeds need to become plants. The book includes a table of contents and a words-to-know section, as well as suggestions of books and websites for further investigation. The words-to-know section does not include any definitions; it simply pulls a picture from the book and lists the page number it is found on. In addition, there is a short section for adults on follow-up activities for children to learn more about seeds. The title supports early science curriculums on plant science.
